CUNY Big Apple Job Fair
Step aside, teachers; this apple is for students.
The 28th Annual Big Apple Job and Internship Fair, hosted by The City University of New York (CUNY), is expected to be the largest in the last ten years, with 115 private and public sector organizations recruiting from among the expected thousands of CUNY graduating students and recent alumni looking for full-time positions, and current students seeking internships and part-time job opportunities.
María Torres-Springer, President and CEO of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, will deliver the keynote address at a breakfast reception for recruiters prior to the fair.
The CUNY Big Apple Job and Internship Fair will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the River Pavilion and Galleria at the Jacob Javits Center, Manhattan.
Guests are asked to enter at 11th Avenue between 34th and 35th Streets.
Nearly 92% of CUNY students are employed or continuing their education, or both, within three years of graduation. The vast majority of graduates continue to reside, work and pay taxes in New York.
“Leading public and private employers from the region and beyond count on [this fair] to recruit from a rich pool of talented and diverse students and graduates,” said Chancellor James B. Milliken. “It also offers remarkable employment and internship opportunities for our students and alumni.”
Also included is a CUNY graduate and professional programs fair, providing students with an opportunity to investigate advanced degrees. Since employers often offer employees some sort of tuition reimbursement, this aspect of the fair can prove especially appropriate for many attendees.
Among the organizations that will be represented at the Big Apple Fair are healthcare systems; city, state and federal agencies; financial services firms; nonprofit social service agencies; IT and telecommunications firms; and educational organizations. Additionally, a number of CUNY programs also recruit at the fair.
Students and alumni do not need to sign-up for the fair in advance. Graduating CUNY students are advised to visit their college Career Services office for assistance preparing for the fair.
On April 22nd, CUNY students need only present an updated résumé and show a current CUNY college ID for admission.
CUNY alumni should present their résumés to gain admission. Professional business attire is required: for men a tie, suit, sports jacket and slacks; for women a suit/dress or skirt and jacket. No casual attire.
Maria Torres-Springer, President and CEO of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and the keynote speaker at the breakfast reception, leads NYCEDC’s efforts to make New York City the global model for inclusive innovation and economic growth, fueled by the diversity of its people and businesses. The Hon. Freida D. Foster, a member of the CUNY Board of Trustees, will deliver greetings from the Board at the breakfast reception, which will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the River Pavilion at the Javits Center. Jay Hershenson, Secretary of the Board of Trustees and Senior Vice Chancellor for University Relations, will moderate the program.

Se espera que la 28a Feria Anual de empleo y prácticas Gran Manzana, organizada por la City University de Nueva York (CUNY), sea la más grande de los últimos diez años, con 115 organizaciones del sector público y privado reclutando de los entre miles de esperados graduados y ex alumnos de CUNY que buscan posiciones de tiempo completo, y estudiantes actuales que buscan pasantías y oportunidades de empleo a tiempo parcial.
María Torres-Springer, presidenta y directora general de la Corporación de Desarrollo Económico de la ciudad de Nueva York, pronunciará el discurso principal en una recepción-desayuno para los reclutadores antes de la feria.
La Feria Anual de Empleo y Prácticas Gran Manzana se llevará a cabo el viernes 22 de abril de 2016, de 11 a.m. a 2 p.m. en el Pabellón y Galería River en el Centro Jacob Javits, Manhattan.
Se pide a los visitantes entrar por la avenida 11, entre las calles 34 y 35.

Dado que los empleadores a menudo ofrecen a sus empleados algún tipo de reembolso de matrícula, este aspecto de la feria puede ser especialmente apropiado para muchos de los asistentes.

El 22 de abril, los estudiantes de CUNY sólo tienen que presentar un currículum actualizado y mostrar una identificación vigente de CUNY para entrar. Los ex alumnos de CUNY deben presentar su currículum para ser admitidos. Se requiere ropa de trabajo profesional: para los hombres corbata, traje, chaqueta deportiva y pantalones; para las mujeres un traje/vestido o falda y chaqueta. No se permite vestimenta casual.
