Mayor’s Cup Cricket All-Star Game
New York City’s best high school cricket players from the Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) will compete on Sat., Jun. 20th in the 2015 NYC Mayor’s Cup Cricket All-Star Game. The game will feature the Queens All-Star team taking on a team comprised of the best cricketers from the Bronx and other boroughs. The match will be played at 1 p.m. at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, Parade Ground Cricket Field 3. Admission is free.

Rubble Kings
Visit the Bronx Documentary Center for a viewing of Rubble Kings, a new documentary film about the street gang revolution that impacted the world over through hip hop. Archival footage and present-day interviews with former gang members lead to a presentation on an age when confronting a bankrupt, decaying city and the dashed hopes of the civil rights generation, African-American and Latino teenagers, including the Savage Skulls and the Ghetto Brothers, took over the streets of 1970’s New York. Interviews reveal how peace was brokered in a most unlikely manner, laying the foundation for what ultimately became hip-hop culture. Showings of Rubble Kings will be on Tues., Jun. 30th through Thurs., Jul. 2nd at 8:15 p.m.

Columbus, the Pilgrims and Other Terrorists
Join poet, author and motivational speaker Bobby González on Fri., Jun. 19th at 6 p.m. for a special performance of Columbus, the Pilgrims and Other Terrorists at the Hostos Center for Arts and Culture. Born and raised in the Bronx, González draws on his Taino and Latino roots to offer a unique repertoire of discourses, readings and performances that celebrate his indigenous heritage.
This is a free event. Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture is located at 450 Grand Concourse.

Meet the Artists
Visit Wave Hill on Sun., June 14th at 1:30 p.m. for an artist talk with Tamara Johnson and Eto Otitigbe, who will discuss the installations they have on view in the Sunroom Project Space. Otitigbe creates mixed-media sculptural forms which combine the man-made and the organic, using engineered and repurposed materials. Otitigbe’s multi-step process results in a small series of relief panels and sculptures inspired by organic patterns that reference natural mathematical phenomena. In the Sun Porch, Johnson installs a whimsical replica of the stone balustrade bordering Wave Hill’s lower lawn. Johnson’s installation calls attention to the function of architecture to delineate space, shift pathways and frame viewpoints.
Free with admission to the grounds. Wave Hill is located at West 249th Street and Independence Avenue.

Juego de las estrellas de la Copa de cricket del alcalde
Los mejores jugadores de preparatoria de la ciudad de Nueva York de la Liga Atlética de Escuelas Públicas (PSAL por sus siglas en inglés) competirán el sábado 20 de junio en el Juego de las estrellas de la Copa de cricket del alcalde 2015. El juego contará con el equipo de estrellas de Queens formando un equipo compuesto por los mejores jugadores de cricket del Bronx y otros condados. El partido se jugará a la 1 pm en Van Cortlandt Park en el Bronx, Plaza de Armas, Campo de cricket 3. La entrada es gratuita.

Rubble Kings
Visite el Centro Documental del Bronx para ver Rubble Kings, un nuevo documental sobre la revolución de las pandillas callejeras que impactó al mundo a través del hip hop. Videos de archivos y entrevistas actuales con ex pandilleros logran presentar una época en que se confrontaron una ciudad decadente en bancarrota y las esperanzas frustradas de la generación de los derechos civiles, los adolescentes afro-americanos y latinos, incluyendo a los Savage Skulls y los Ghetto Brothers, quienes se hicieron cargo de las calles de la Nueva York en el 1970. Las entrevistas revelan cómo se negoció la paz de la manera más inverosímil, sentando las bases de lo que en última instancia se convirtió en la cultura hip-hop. Habrá proyecciones de Rubble Kings desde el martes 30 de junio hasta el jueves 2 de julio a las 8:15 p.m.

Visite Wave Hill el domingo 14 de junio a la 1:30 pm para una charla con los artistas Tamara Johnson y Eto Otitigbe, quienes discutirán las instalaciones que tienen en exhibición en el espacio Sunroom Project. Otitigbe crea formas escultóricas de técnicas mixtas que combinan lo orgánico y lo hecho por el hombre, utilizando materiales reusables y de ingeniería. Los pasos del proceso de Otitigbe resulta en una pequeña serie de paneles en relieve y esculturas inspiradas en patrones orgánicos que hacen referencia a fenómenos matemáticos naturales. En Sun Porch, Johnson instala una réplica caprichosa de la balaustrada que bordea el césped inferior de Wave Hill. La instalación de Johnson llama la atención a la función de la arquitectura para delimitar el espacio, cambiar las vías y enmarcar puntos de vista.
