JFK Campus will re-open on time
The Department of Education (DOE) has announced that all seven schools at the John F. Kennedy Campus in the Bronx will reopen on the first day of school, Wed., Sept. 9th, with no disruption to instruction.
The building, whose sixth floor was damaged in a gas explosion on August 20, is structurally sound and safe, and air quality tests have shown there is no possible danger for students, families, and school staff returning to the building.
There are approximately 3,000 students enrolled at the seven schools on the JFK Campus.
Those schools are Marble Hill School for International Studies, Bronx Theatre High School, Bronx School of Law and Finance, English Language Learners and International Support Prep Academy, Bronx Engineering and Technology Academy, New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science, and New Visions Charter High School for Humanities.

The two New Visions schools were temporarily relocated at In-Tech Academy and will be returning to JFK Campus.
The DOE announced that workers have made all necessary repairs and have sealed off the damaged rooms with sheetrock walls, and it is expected that classes and programs will commence without any disruption to students’ schedules.
To make up for the loss of the damaged science labs, alternatives such as lab carts will be provided. There are functioning science labs in the building and students will have full use of all other facilities, including athletic fields. Air quality tests have been posted on the websites of each school.

Bids will go out for reconstruction work on the rooms that were damaged and repairs will begin later this year. Because all work will take place in sealed off rooms, no students will be affected. Workers from the DOE and the School Construction Authority have been working since the incident to repair damage, put up walls and to ensure the building is safe.

El Departamento de Educación (DOE por sus siglas en inglés) ha anunciado que las siete escuelas en el campus John F. Kennedy del Bronx reabrirán el primer día de clases, el miércoles 9 de septiembre, sin interrumpir la enseñanza.
El edificio, cuyo sexto piso fue dañado en una explosión de gas el 20 de agosto, se encuentra estructuralmente sano y seguro, y las pruebas de calidad del aire han mostrado que no hay ningún riesgo posible para los estudiantes, las familias y el personal de la escuela que regresan al edificio.
Hay aproximadamente 3,000 estudiantes inscritos en las siete escuelas del campus JFK.
Esas escuelas son:la Escuela de Estudios Internacionales Marble Hill, la Preparatoria Bronx Theatre, la Escuela de Derecho y Finanzas del Bronx, la Academia Internacional de Apoyo y de Preparación de Estudiantes del idioma inglés, la Academia de Tecnología e Ingeniería del Bronx, la Preparatoria charter New Visions de Matemáticas y Ciencias avanzada, y la Preparatoria charter New Visions de Humanidades.

Las dos escuelas New Visions fueron temporalmente reubicadas en la Academia In-Tech y regresarán al campus JFK.
El DOE anunció que los trabajadores han hecho todas las reparaciones necesarias y han acordonado las aulas dañadas con paredes de placas de yeso. Se espera que las clases y los programas inicien sin ninguna interrupción a los horarios de los estudiantes.
Para compensar la pérdida de los laboratorios de ciencias dañados, se proporcionarán alternativas, como carros de laboratorio. Hay laboratorios de ciencias funcionando en el edificio y los estudiantes tendrán un uso completo de todas las demás instalaciones, incluyendo los campos de atletismo. Pruebas de calidad del aire se han publicado en los sitios web de cada escuela.
Se lanzarán licitaciones para los trabajos de reconstrucción en las aulas que fueron dañadas, las reparaciones comenzarán a finales de este año. Debido a que todo el trabajo se llevará a cabo en aulas selladas, ningún estudiante se verá afectado. Los trabajadores del DOE y de la Autoridad de Construcción de Escuelas han estado trabajando desde el incidente para reparar los daños, levantar paredes y asegurar el edificio es seguro.
