Berkeley at the Boat
Berkeley College volunteers, comprised of approximately 300 staff, faculty, students, alumni and trustees, volunteered more than 1,000 hours of service at over two dozen community agencies in New York, including in the Bronx, as part of the Fifth Annual Berkeley College Community Service Day, held Fri., May 16th.
Volunteers from Berkeley worked at such sites as At Room to Grow, an organization dedicated to bettering the lives of babies born into poverty, by organizing donations of infant toys and clothing.
In the Hunts Point section of the Bronx, volunteers pitched in at Rocking the Boat, an organization that empowers young people challenged by severe economic, educational, and social conditions to develop the self-confidence to set ambitious goals.
“Community Service Day is an educational opportunity wherein we help others, and our staff, faculty, students and alumni learn more about the communities where we work and live as we support them with our voluntary efforts,” said Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President of Berkeley College.
In New York, volunteers had 17 opportunities to serve in the Bronx, Manhattan and other areas of the New York City area.
Among the range of services offered, for example, volunteers worked with the Food Bank for New York City reorganizing goods and food for redistribution; sorted and shelved books at three branches of the New York Public Library; hosted breakfast and planted flowers a health organization; and assisted with a school visit to a nearby public library.
Community Service Day is an initiative of Berkeley Cares, which throughout the year assists charities in the critical areas of food, shelter, health and student success.

Voluntarios de Berkeley College, compuestos por unos 300 empleados, profesores, estudiantes, ex alumnos y administradores, ofrecieron voluntariamente más de 1,000 horas de servicio en más de dos docenas de organismos comunitarios en Nueva York, incluido el Bronx, como parte del quinto día anual de servicio comunitario de Berkeley College, celebrado viernes 16 de mayo.
Los voluntarios de Berkeley trabajaron en lugares como A Room to Grow, una organización dedicada a mejorar las vidas de los bebés nacidos en la pobreza, organizando donaciones de juguetes y ropa para bebés.

Los voluntarios tuvieron 17 oportunidades de servir en el Bronx, Manhattan y otras áreas de la ciudad de Nueva York.
