Bronx Terminal Market Celebrates Back to School

On Thurs., Aug. 29th, the Bronx Terminal Market will celebrate the imminent school season with a day of outdoor activities. The Back-to-School Event has a lineup of free activities that begin at 5:00 p.m. on Bronx Terminal Market’s Level 6 Garage Roof Deck, and will feature face painting, haircuts from Slique Hair Studio, a Dinosaur Safari Scavenger Egg Hunt from the Bronx Zoo and art activities from the Bronx Museum. There will be giveaways provided by 92.3 NOW radio and Applebee’s. A special screening of Wreck-It Ralph will be featured at 7:30 p.m. after the preceding events are done. The Market will also feature a back-to-school checklist to help participants get organized and stock up on basics. Stores, including Staples, Toys “R” Us, Bed Bath & Beyond, GameStop, Payless ShoeSource, Target, Marshalls, Skechers, Burlington Coat Factory, BX Sports, Home Depot, BJ’s, Marisco Centro, and more will offer a wide array of special offers and giveaways. St. Barnabas Hospital has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines.
Get With The Guidelines–Stroke helps hospital’s develop and implement acute and secondary prevention guideline processes to improve patient care and outcomes. The program provides hospitals with a web-based patient management tool, best practice discharge protocols and standing orders, along with a robust registry and real-time benchmarking capabilities to track performance. This is St. Barnabas Hospital’s second consecutive Gold Stroke Award.

EcoCrafts at Van Cortlandt Park
On Thurs., Aug. 29th, Friends of Van Cortlandt Park and Urban Farming invite residents to recycle used and natural materials into new creations at Van Cortlandt Park’s Classic Playground. Projects include wearable crafts, repurposed items, and creative ways to look at nature. Enter the Park at Van Cortlandt Park South and Gouvernuer Ave. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Merrell Down and Dirty Mud Run
The Merrell Down and Dirty, as presented by Subaru, will be returning to New York on Sun., Sept 29th, at Pelham Park at Orchard Beach. It is the biggest and most popular Mud Run in the United States. One can sign up for the 5K run or the 10K run.
