Celebrate gardening at the Roberto Clemente Community Garden.

On Sat., Jun. 8th, Bronx Urban Farms Trolley Tours invites all residents to a tour celebrating New York City’s Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend.

Participants will first be granted the opportunity to garden at the Roberto Clemente Community Garden, which has a variety of vegetables and fruit trees, permanently protected by The Bronx Land Trust.

Next, participants will have the opportunity to participate and see the building of a float for the parade, at El Flamboyán Community Garden in the South Bronx.

Finally, participants will have an opportunity to see a live performance at Rincon Criollo Cultural Center and Community Garden with Jose Chema Soto. Lunch is included.

The tour will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. The tour will pick up guests and drop them off at 810 Seventh Avenue (corner of West 52nd Street).

Bronx storyteller Bobby Gonzalez will be the tour’s guide.

Tickets are $30 (children 12 and under ride free); cash or check payable to Green Thumb Community Fund. Proceeds go directly to support the Bronx’s community gardens.

6th Annual Bronx Arts Ensemble Festival of the Arts

Bronx Arts Ensemble offers an arts teaching program in over 50 schools.

 

On Mon., June 3rd, The Bronx Arts Ensemble will present its 6th annual Festival of the Arts, a performance showcasing students in its arts-in-education programs in Bronx schools, at 3:00 p.m. in the Lovinger Theatre at Lehman College, located at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West.

The event will feature performances by band, African drumming and dance, violin, modern dance, chorus, hip-hop, clarinet, Latin ballroom and visual arts students.

The program is free and open to the public.
Bronx schools represented at the Festival include: Bronx International High School, East Fordham Academy, Ellis Preparatory Academy, International Community High School, PS 16, PS 19, PS 56, PS 114, PS 153, IS 229, PS/MS 280 and more.
Bronx Arts Ensemble offers an arts teaching program in over 50 schools in the Bronx and around New York City, including instruction in music, dance, drama and visual arts, offering professional programs to fulfill State Learning Standards in the arts.

Explore Vault Hill

Vault Hill in Van Cortlandt Park will be explored

On Thurs., Jun 13th, visit and learn more about Vault Hill, as part of the Seven Wonders of Van Cortlandt Park. Guests are expected to arrive by 6:40 p.m. for a presentation on the History of Vault Hill from the Director of the Van Cortlandt House Museum. Then the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park will lead a hike up to Vault Hill to see the location in person and enjoy a view of the park and the city. After the hike, refreshments and snacks will be served. Raffle tickets will be sold at the event for prizes to help raise funding for the Friends environmental education and stewardship programs. The event will begin on the grounds of the VC House Museum (enter the Park at Broadway and West 246th St.)
