Get informed and maximize your benefits before new deadlines

If you are having trouble understanding and getting the most out of Medicare and the benefits of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), you are not alone. There are still thousands of individuals who are still without health insurance simply because they do not understand the process or how to apply.
Luckily, the current open enrollment period is taking place now until December 7, 2014 for Medicare, and now until February 15, 2015 for ACA. If you become informed and take action, you should be able to understand and get the most out of your benefits.
Lincoln Medical Center has been at the forefront of educating the community about the best health insurance options under the new healthcare reform. In March 2014, with support from the New York City’s Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) and other partners, Lincoln launched a successful bilingual health insurance enrollment initiative that helped new patients understand and navigate health insurance options and avoid penalties for not obtaining health insurance under ACA in 2014.
If you miss the upcoming deadlines, you will have to wait a year to apply and obtain health insurance under the law (although there are a few exceptions). To help the community stay on track with health coverage, HHC most recently partnered with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to host “Health Insurance 101”, a workshop focused on healthcare reform, ACA, and how to choose and purchase health insurance under the “exchange” program established by the State.
The event at Lincoln Medical Center took place on Friday, November 21st. Topics of discussion included the benefits and application process of Medicare, prescription drugs and dental coverage alternatives, appeals, and special programs and resources for the uninsured, and people with low income and/or disabilities, and other related subjects.
All U.S. citizens and legal residents are eligible for ACA and are encouraged to apply. HHC and Lincoln Medical Center remain committed to providing the best healthcare possible regardless of immigration status or ability to pay.

Infórmese y maximize sus beneficios antes de nuevas fechas límites

Si tiene problemas entendiendo o utilizando al máximo sus beneficios de Medicare y la Ley del Cuidado de Salud Asequible (ACA por sus siglas en inglés), usted no está sólo. Aún existen miles de personas que están sin seguro médico ya que no entienden el proceso o cómo solicitar sus beneficios.
Por suerte, los nuevos períodos de inscripción abierta están en curso hasta el 7 de diciembre del 2014 para Medicare, y hasta el 15 de febrero del 2015 para ACA. Si usted se informa y toma acción, podría entender y utilizar sus beneficios al máximo.
El Hospital Lincoln ha estado a la vanguardia de educar a la comunidad sobre las mejores opciones de seguro médico, conforme a la reforma. En marzo pasado, con el apoyo de la Corporación de Salud y Hospitales de la Ciudad (HHC en inglés) y otros socios, el Lincoln lanzó una exitosa iniciativa bilingüe de inscripción en planes de seguro médico, que ayudó a nuevos pacientes a entender y evaluar las opciones de cobertura, y evitar multas por no obtener seguro médico bajo ACA en 2014.
Si usted no cumple con las fechas límites que se aproximan, tendrá que esperar un año para aplicar y obtener seguro médico según la ley (aunque existen algunas excepciones). Para ayudar a la comunidad, HHC se asoció recientemente al Centro de Servicios Médicos y Medicare para proveer “Seguro Médico 101”, un taller educativo sobre la reforma del cuidado de salud, ACA, más como elegir y comprar seguro médico a través del programa de “intercambio ” establecido por el estado.
El taller en el Hospital Lincoln se realizó el viernes 21 de noviembre. Se discutieron temas tales como beneficios y el proceso de solicitud de Medicare, alternativas de plan de salud dental y medicamentos por receta, apelaciones, programas especiales y recursos para personas sin seguro, de escasos recursos y/o discapacitados, entre otros asuntos relacionados.
Todos los ciudadanos estadounidenses y residentes legales son elegibles para ACA y pueden solicitar cobertura. HHC y el Hospital Lincoln permanecen comprometidos con proveer la mejor asistencia médica posible, sin importar el estatus migratorio o capacidad para pagar.
Si usted no pudo acudir al taller educativo la semana pasada y necesita información sobre cómo solicitar seguro médico, puede llamar al Departamento de Cuidado Controlado del Hospital Lincoln, (718) 579-5587. Usted también podría acudir a una serie adicional de seminarios gratis, provistos por MetroPlus en el Centro de Diagnóstico y Tratamiento Morrisania (3 de diciembre), Centro de Diagnóstico y Tratamiento Segundo Ruiz Belvis (4 de diciembre); y el Hospital Lincoln (5 de diciembre). Estos seminarios comienzan a las 11:00am.
