Bronx Stories Anniversary Celebrate the five-year anniversary of “Bronx Stories” at the Bronx Museum of the Arts on Fri., Jan. 9th from 6 – 9 p.m. Bronx Stories is an evening of storytelling, poetry and music inspired by the borough and the museum’s works of art. Guests are encouraged to let their voices be heard during an open mic session, which will feature performances by artists, activists and leaders, such as Maria Aponte, Caridad “La Bruja” de la Luz, and James “Peach” McClory. New Year Creations Visit Wave Hill on Sat., Jan. 2nd from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and learn the meanings and signs represented by animals in the Chinese New Year calendar as well as from the Spirit Animal teachings of Native Americans. Discover what animal will you be in the new year – or create your own. Participants will be able to turn these creations into personalized hanging 2016 calendars. Charanga Discover the sounds of charanga, a lively Cuban orchestral performance rich in Afro-Cuban sounds, as performed by both the Septeto Nacional de Cuba and the Orquesta Broadway at Lehman College’s Center for the Performing Arts on Sat., Jan. 16th at 8 p.m. Formed in 1927 by Latin music star Ignacio Piñiero, the Septeto Nacional is the longest running charanga band in Cuba. The Orquesta Broadway, now in its 50th year, is the longest running charanga band outside of Cuba. The Lehman College Center for the Performing Arts is located at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West.
