Poetry Catchers
Use flower petals and other natural materials on Sat., Dec. 21st to create celestial scenes that capture light on the longest night of the year. Celebrate the balance of night and day by coming together to tell stories and create poetry to welcome winter and invite dormancy, rest and snowy nights. Create a three-dimensional light catcher infused with your own found poetry. This event starts at 10:00 a.m. at Wave Hill Garden located at West 249th Street and Independence Avenue.

History of the Holidays
Van Cortlandt House will be decorated in holiday finery from early December through early January.
Included with regular Museum admission, this annual display features a glimpse into 18th-century celebrations of some familiar and not-so-familiar winter holidays. Self-guided tours will highlight scenes of holidays including St. Nicholas Day, New Year’s Day, and Twelfth Night celebrations throughout the house.
A special self-guided children’s and family eye-spy tour will also be available. The Van Cortlandt House is located at 6036 Broadway, Van Cortlandt Park.

Free Holiday Concert
On Fri., Dec. 27th at 7:00 p.m., Casita María Center for Arts and Education and Bronx Care Health System invite you to celebrate the holidays with the All Star Band starring Nelson González and Laura María Reyes. Launching Your Business
On Thur., Dec.12th, the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco) is hosting a free workshop with the group Start Small, Think Big. The forum, titled “Planning for Success: Legal Considerations for Launching Your Business” will run from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Join in to learn from Start Small about the full range of primary legal considerations to address either before or soon after starting your small business. Topics will include the benefits of limited liability entities, flexibility and benefits available for written contracts/agreements, legal issues that arise when doing business online, staffing liability and legal options, and more. The workshop will take place at 50 East 168th Street.

Klezmer Music
Join internationally-renowned tsimbl (hammered dulcimer) player Pete Rushefsky on Tues., Dec. 17th from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for an afternoon exploring Jewish klezmer music – the celebratory music of the Jews of Eastern Europe that was transplanted to New York in the early 20th century, and then revitalized by a new generation of musicians beginning in the 1970’s. From soulful spirituals to infectious dance tunes, klezmer has much to offer listeners of all ages. This event will take place at Poe Park Visitor Center in Poe Park is located at 2640 Grand Concourse.

Música klezmer
Únase al jugador de tsimbl (dulcimer martillado) de fama internacional Pete Rushefsky el martes 17 de diciembre de 2:00 p.m. a 3:00 p.m. durante una tarde explorando la música judía klezmer, la música de celebración de los judíos de Europa del Este que fue trasplantada a Nueva York a principios del siglo XX y luego revitalizada por una nueva generación de músicos a partir de la década de 1970.
