On Sun., Nov. 6th, Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum will host a show by actor and historian Patrick Falci, known for his role as Confederate Lieutenant General Ambrose Powell Hill in the film Gettysburg, produced by Ted Turner. The Sedgwick branch of the New York Public Library is offering Latin classes on Fri., Oct. 21st and Fri., Oct. 28th at 3:30 p.m. Latin is the language of the ancient Romans. The introductory course is run by the Paideia Institute, a non-profit educational organization that promotes classical humanities focused on Latin and Ancient Greek languages and literature. Students will work with Latin teachers and mentors to learn the language through translation, games and activities. The class is intended for youths aged 5 – 18 years of age. The Bronx Zoo invites you to celebrate the American Bison on Sat., November 5th from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The Bison was named the first “Official U.S. National Mammal” earlier this year by President Obama. The Bison exhibit will open at 1:30 p.m.; guests can interact with experts, learn more about the animal’s history, and then be tested on their knowledge. Swoop into the Bronx Documentary Center on Halloween to have your photographic portrait taken. Make wands and fairy houses at Wave Hill on Sun., Oct. 23rd from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Artist Rama Mandel will assist children in making their own fairy wands using ribbons.
