Knock Down the House
The Bronx Documentary Center (BDC) will showcase the film Knock Down the House as part of its 5th Annual Women’s Film Series on Sat., Oct 5th at 6:00 p.m.
The 2019 American documentary film, directed by Rachel Lears, revolves around the primary campaigns of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Amy Vilela, Cori Bush and Paula Jean Swearengin, four progressive Democrats. Without political experience or corporate money, they build a movement of insurgent candidates challenging powerful incumbents in Congress. Their efforts result in a legendary upset. Suggested donation: $5 Bronx Residents, $10 General Admission, 18 and under Free. Tickets are available at the door. The Bronx Documentary Center is located at 614 Courtlandt Avenue.

Spooky Pumpkin Garden
Take in a sea of gourds of all shapes and sizes, a host of silly scarecrows and frightfully fun activities beginning Sat., Sept. 21st at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG). Experience the thrills and chills of the season with visits from creepy creatures of the night, after-dark adventures, and the arrival of monstrous pumpkins. The Life and Times of Alvin Baltrop
A quiet man who supported himself as a street vendor, jewelry designer, photography printer, and cab driver, Bronx native Alvin Baltrop left an important body of work after his untimely death in 2004 that is garnering serious attention. Like the startling images of Peter Moore, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Gordon Matta-Clark, the Baltrop photographs memorialize New York City at a breaking-point moment. The exhibition features over 200 photographs drawn from the Bronx Museum’s permanent collection and from private collections. In addition, the artist’s personal archive will be shown to the public for the first time. The exhibit will be on view until Sun., Feb. 9th 2020.

Tour de Bronx 25th Anniversary
On Sun., Oct., 27th at 8:30 a.m. join thousands of participants cycling through the neighborhoods, scenic waterfronts and greenways of the borough in the state’s largest free cycling event. Participants choose from one of two rides. The 25-mile route takes riders through the south, east and mid portion of the borough including the Mott Haven district, Clason Point along the East River, and the largest park in New York City: Pelham Bay Park, which boasts nearly 3,000 acres of natural forest. The 40-mile route includes a visit to the historic Fort Schuyler on the Throggs Neck peninsula, the nautical community of City Island and northern neighborhoods of Woodlawn and Riverdale. Both rides conclude at the New York Botanical Garden, where riders receive a complimentary souvenir T-shirt and enjoy a live musical performance. The Tour de Bronx will meet on 168th Street and Grand Concourse.

Family Art Project
On Sun., Oct. 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., become a naturalist and create a backyard herbarium and DIY flower press with everyday materials. Take a walk through the woodlands to collect fallen flowers and leaves and then head back to the studio to create work that infuses your unique observations. La vida y los tiempos de Alvin Baltrop

Tour del Bronx del 25º Aniversario
El domingo 27 de octubre a las 8:30 a.m., únase a miles de participantes rodando en bicicleta por los vecindarios, los pintorescos litorales y las vías verdes del condado en el evento gratuito de ciclismo más grande del estado. Los participantes eligen uno de los dos viajes.
