Street Art on the Grand Concourse
On Sun., Sept 29th, join the Bronx Lab in its celebration of public art in the Bronx with a free guided walking tour of street art along the Grand Concourse followed by a graffiti-inspired art activity with Lady K-Fever. Lady K-Fever is an inter-disciplinary Bronx-based artist who began her career as a graffiti writer in the 1990’s in Vancouver, Canada. She is the first Canadian female invited to paint at the legendary Graffiti Hall of Fame in East Harlem and continues to make community based public murals in the Bronx and throughout the world. She is an educator that specializes in hip hop/ graffiti/ street art education.
Bronx Lab is a test site for new ideas at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, engaging audiences in discussions about contemporary culture. Bronx Lab endeavors to serve as a center axis, connecting education and curatorial initiatives while exploring the past, present, and future of the Bronx. Using exhibitions, public programming, social media, as well as hands-on activities, participants in the Lab explore critical views of the Bronx’s culture. Inspired by the theme of Public Art, this year’s series of Bronx Labs will celebrate and promote public art in the Bronx.

History of the Bronx Latino
On Wed., Oct. 2nd at 6:30 p.m., Angel Hernandez, a Bronx Historical Society educator and Director of the Bronx Latino Project, will present an illustrated presentation on the history of Latinos in the Bronx; a tribute to the Bronx’s largest ethnic group.
The tribute is part of National Hispanic Heritage Month.

La Cultura Italiana
The Woodlawn Cemetery invites residents to honor the artistic talents and cultural legacies of Italian-Americans. Guests will get the opportunity to hear stories of sculptors and artisans whose commissioned work and whose own memorials can both be found at The Woodlawn Cemetery. Special guests Eleanor and Jerry Koffler, co-authors of Freeing the Angel from the Stone, will be present and discuss the lives and inspirations of the Piccirillis Brothers, renowned marble carvers and sculptors. Guests will meet at the Jerome Avenue entrance at 2:00 p.m.

Raptor Day at Wave Hill
Wave Hill will host its Raptor Day on Columbus Day (Mon., Oct. 14th); from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This day-long event features live raptor shows, bird walks, discovery tables, owl pellet dissections and more. Overlooking the Hudson River, Wave Hill is said to be the perfect place to look for hawks, eagles, kites, ospreys, and falcons. It is located at 675 West 252nd Street.

Passages: Free Community Art Workshops
On Sat., Oct. 5th, join the group Visiones Culturales for free art workshops offered by some of the artists featured in “Passages: A Collective Art Exhibition.” Workshops are open to adults and school age children and teenagers.
Some of the workshops include (subject to change):
1. Creation of Hand-Made Books
2. Paper Making
3. Plena/Bomba Dance Workshops
4. Painting Workshops
One ticket will grant a participant a spot in one of the six free art workshops that will be offered from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration is at 10:00 a.m.; spaces are limited for each workshop. Please note that an individual ticket will get participants a spot in any one of the workshops and Visiones Culturales does not guarantee an open space for a participant’s first choice. If a participant’s first choice workshop is full, the participant will be granted the opportunity to select a different workshop. The free workshops will take place at the Andrew Freedman House located at 1125 Grand Concourse.

Arte en la Calle en Grand Concourse
El domingo 29 de septiembre, únete a Bronx Lab en su celebración del arte público en el Bronx con un recorrido a pie guiado y gratuito del arte urbano a lo largo del Grand Concourse, seguido de una actividad de arte inspirada en los grafitis con Lady K-Fever. Lady K-Fever es una artista interdisciplinaria del Bronx que comenzó su carrera como escritora de graffiti en la década de 1990 en Vancouver, Canadá. Ella fue la primera mujer canadiense invitada a pintar en el legendario Salón de la Fama del Graffiti en East Harlem y sigue haciendo murales públicos de base comunitaria en el Bronx y en todo el mundo. Ella es una educadora especializada en hip hop/grafiti/educación artística de la calle.
Bronx Lab es un sitio de prueba de nuevas ideas en el Museo de Arte del Bronx, que involucra a la audiencia en los debates sobre la cultura contemporánea. Bronx Lab se esfuerza para servir como eje central, conectando la educación y las iniciativas curatoriales mientras explora el pasado, presente y futuro del Bronx. Historia del Bronx Latino
El miércoles 2 de octubre a las 6:30 p.m., Ángel Hernández, educador de la Sociedad Histórica del Bronx y director del Proyecto Bronx Latino, hará una presentación ilustrada sobre la historia de los latinos en el Bronx, un homenaje al grupo étnico más grande del Bronx. El homenaje es parte del mes nacional de la herencia hispana. El mes nacional de la herencia hispana es del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre.

La Cultura Italiana
El cementerio Woodlawn le invita a honrar los talentos artísticos y legados culturales de los ítaloamericanos. Los visitantes tendrán la oportunidad de escuchar las historias de los escultores y artesanos cuyo trabajo encargado y cuyos monumentos propios pueden ser encontrados en el cementerio Woodlawn. Los invitados especiales Eleanor y Jerry Koffler, coautores de Freeing the Angel from the Stone, estarán presentes y discutirán las vidas y las inspiraciones de los hermanos Piccirillis, renombrados talladores de mármol y escultores. Día del Ave Rapaz en Wave Hill
Wave Hill celebrará su día del ave rapaz en el día de la raza (lunes 14 de octubre), de 9:30 a.m. a 4:00 p,m. Este evento de un día de duración contará con shows en vivo de aves rapaces, paseos, mesas de descubrimiento, disecciones y más. Con vistas al río Hudson, Wave Hill se dice que es el lugar perfecto para buscar halcones, águilas, milanos, águilas pescadoras y gavilanes. Wave Hill se encuentra en el 675 de la calle 52 oeste.

Passages: talleres comunitarios de arte gratuitos
El sábado 5 de octubre, únete a Visiones Culturales para talleres artísticos gratuitos ofrecidos por algunos de los artistas que se presentan en Passages: A Collective Art Exhibition. Los talleres están abiertos a adultos, niños en edad escolar y adolescentes.
Algunos talleres incluyen (sujetos a cambio):
1. Creación de libros a mano
2. Creación de papel
3. Talleres de baile Plena/Bomba
4. Talleres de pintura
Una entrada otorgará a un participante un lugar en uno de los seis talleres artísticos gratuitos que se ofrecerán de 10 a.m. a 4:00 p.m. El registro es a las 10:00 a.m., los cupos son limitados para cada taller. Tenga en cuenta que un boleto individual dará a los participantes un lugar en uno de los talleres y Visiones Culturales no garantiza un espacio abierto para la primera elección de un participante. Si el primer taller de la elección de un participante está lleno, al participante se concederá la oportunidad de seleccionar un taller diferente. Los talleres gratuitos se realizarán en la Casa Andrew Freedman ubicada en el 1125 de Grand Concourse.
