Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra
After making its debut as an ensemble at the Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture thirteen years ago, 2015 Grammy Award-winning Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra together return to perform on Sat., Oct. 17th at 7:30 p.m. The ensemble will perform an all-Cuban concert commemorating the restoration of diplomatic relations and celebrating the release of Cuba: The Conversation Continues, theur heralded new album recorded in Havana. The performance will also feature special guests on the album, including Cuban-based composer, vocalist and trumpeter Bobby Carcassés; alto saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa; turntablist DJ Logic; pianist and composer Michele Rosewoman; and drummer Zack O’Farrill. The Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture is located at 450 Grand Concourse.

Upstream Soiree
Join the Bronx River Alliance on Tues., Sept. 29th for its annual Upstream Soirée, which will take place at the Bronx Zoo. The event celebrates the protection, improvement and restoration of the Bronx River. Over 200 supporters will be in attendance for a festive evening featuring live music, cocktails, a light buffet and silent auction. Among the honorees this year are GIVE Director Nilka Martell, Kiss + Kathcart Architects, and actress and writer Sonia Manzano. Proceeds go to the maintenance and beautification of the Bronx River and its surrounding area. The Bronx Zoo is located at 2300 Southern Boulevard.

Bronx Native American Festival
Celebrate indigenous cultures both local and international at the Bronx Native American Festival on Sun., Sept. 27th at Pelham Bay Park from 12 – 4 p.m. Dubbed “A Celebration of the Unique Native Cultures of the Americas,” this event will feature music, storytelling, food and dance while featuring performances by Master of Ceremonies Bobby Gonzales (Taino); the Silvercloud Singers (Inter-tribal); Tchin (Blackfoot/Narragansett); and Ata Papa (Maori).

Tour de Bronx
Join nearly 6,000 cyclists on Sun., Oct. 25th for the annual Tour de Bronx, the largest free cycling event in New York State. With the choice of either a 25 or 50-mile course through the borough’s 61 neighborhoods, there will be fun for families, casual riders and avid bicyclists. The Tour begins at the Bronx County Building at 161st Street and Grand Concourse and ends with a music festival at the New York Botanical Garden.
Presented by the Bronx Borough President Rubén Díaz, Jr. and Transportation Alternatives, and produced by the Bronx Tourism Council, the Tour de Bronx promotes bicycling and pedestrian environmentally-friendly methods of travel. Men and women of all ages and children participate in this annual event.

Arturo O’Farrill y la Orquesta Afro Latin Jazz
Luego de hacer su debut como conjunto en el Centro de Bellas Artes y Cultura Hostos trece años atrás, Arturo O’Farrill y la Orquesta Afro-Latín Jazz, ganadores del Premio Grammy 2015, regresan para presentarse en el centro el sábado, 17 de octubre a las 7:30 p.m. El conjunto presentará un concierto todo cubano conmemorando la restauración de las relaciones diplomáticas y celebrando el lanzamiento de su anunciado nuevo disco compacto grabado en la Habana – Cuba: La Conversación Continua. La presentación también tendrá invitados especiales que aparecen en el álbum, incluyendo al compositor cubano, vocalista y trompetista Bobby Carcasses; el saxofonista Rudresh Mahanthappa; DJ Logic; pianista y compositora Michele Rosewoman; y el baterista Zack O’Farrill. Velada Río Arriba
Únase a la Alianza del Río Bronx el martes, 29 de septiembre para su Velada Río Arriba anual, la cual se celebrará en el Zoológico del Bronx. La Velada Río Arriba busca celebrar la protección, mejoramiento y restauración del Río Bronx. Más de 200 seguidores asistirán para una festiva noche presentando música en vivo, cóctel, un ligero buffet y una subasta silenciosa. Entre los honrados este año se encuentra la voluntaria y directora de GIVE, Nilka Martell, los arquitectos Kiss + Kathcart y la actriz y escritora Sonia Manzano. Las ganancias irán para el mantenimiento y embellecimiento del Río Bronx y sus áreas adyacentes.La velada se celebrará en el Zoológico del Bronx localizado en el 2300 en Southern Boulevard.

Festival Indígena Americano del Bronx
Celebre culturas indígenas tanto locales como internacionales en el Festival Indígena Americano del Bronx, el domingo, 27 de septiembre en el Parque Pelham Bay de 12:00 a 4:00 p.m. Nombrado “Una Celebración de las Diferentes Culturas Indígenas de las Américas”, este evento presentará música, historias contadas, comida y baile mientras presentan interpretaciones de: Maestro de Ceremonias Bobby Gonzales (Taino), Silvercloud Singers (Inter-Tribal), Tchin (Blackfoot/Narrangasett) y Ata Papa (Maori).

Excursión del Bronx
Únase a cerca de 6,000 ciclistas el domingo, 25 de octubre, cuando se lanzan a la calle para la Excursión Anual del Bronx, el evento de ciclismo más grande en el estado de Nueva York. Con la elección de un curso de 25 o 50 millas a través de los 61 vecindarios del condado, habrá diversión para la familia, corredores casuales y ávidos ciclistas. La excursión comienza en el Edificio County Bronx en la Calle 161 y Grand Concourse y termina con un festival musical en el Jardín Botánico de Nueva York.
Presentado por el presidente del condado del Bronx Rubén Díaz, Jr. y Alternativas de Transportación, y producido por el Concejo de Turismo del Bronx, la Excursión del Bronx promueve el ciclismo y peatonal como métodos ecológicos y cordiales para viajar. Hombres y mujeres de todas las edades como también niños participan en este evento anual.
