Bronx Memoir Project
Join BCA’s Narrative Non-Fiction Workshop starting on Thurs., Sept. 19th at 6:00 p.m. This seminar is designed for writers seeking to tackle the challenge of shorter personal narratives. Over the course of 4 weeks, learn how to start and finish a micro-memoir, a short memoir, or a flash nonfiction literary artwork from the first sentence to resolution. Registration is available for the full Narrative Non-Fiction series or for individual workshops. Please note that you need to attend at least 3 out of 4 workshops to be considered for the publication at the end of the Bronx memoir Project workshop series. The Bronx Council on the Arts is located at 2700 East Tremont Avenue.

Natural Woman
On Fri., Sept. 20th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., celebrate the music of the iconic Aretha Franklin with award-winning vocalist Elissa Carmona who will be joined by Morrisania Band Project. The performance will take place at the Bronx Music Heritage Center, which is located at 1303 Louis Nine Boulevard. This event is free though organizers suggest a $15 donation at the door.

Beyond Iconic
The Bronx Documentary Center will present a screening of Beyond Iconic, a film by Hanna Sawka. It will be followed by a conversation with Michael D. Shulman, Director of Publishing, Broadcast and Film at Magnum Photos. The 2011 film chronicles the personal and professional life of the photographer Dennis Stock. It is narrated by Stock himself and was completed before his death in 2010. The film shone light on different aspects of life including his classroom at the Omega Institute, where he taught a master class of photography before his death. The Bronx Documentary Center is located at 614 Courtlandt Avenue.

Proyecto de Memorias del Bronx
Únase al taller de narrativa de no ficción de BCA a partir del jueves 19 de septiembre a las 6:00 p.m. Este seminario está diseñado para escritores que buscan enfrentar el desafío de narraciones personales más cortas. En el transcurso de 4 semanas, aprenda cómo comenzar y terminar una micro memoria, una memoria corta o una obra de arte literaria flash de no ficción desde la primera oración hasta la resolución. La inscripción está disponible para la serie completa de Narrativa de No Ficción o para talleres individuales.
