See the world in a whole new light at the Bronx Library Center on Sat., Aug. 11th at 2:00 p.m. Nancy Wolk, the Chandra X-ray Center’s Imaging Scientist for NASA, will focus on all features and facets on light in this lecture. What would it mean to see other forms of light? What could scientists learn from studying different lights? The discussion will be held in the Children’s Room. Art in the Air
Twist it up at Parkchester Library on Mon., Aug. 13th at 2:00 p.m. Join local artist Ruth Marshall in creating an art installation for the outdoor courtyard of the library. Use paracord, a soft, colorful nylon cord that can be used for knotting, knitting and macramé. Learn new skills and unleash your creativity. The event repeats every Monday until August 27 and is open to the public. The library is located at 1985 Westchester Avenue.

Forest First Aid
Join neighbors and Rangers at the Pelham Bay Nature Center on Sun., Aug. 19th from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Well versed in outdoor lore, the Urban Park Rangers will provide instruction on tips and tricks intended to enhance your knowledge of the natural world. The survival program is useful whether you plan to go on an extended journey through the woods or just want to be more prepared for any situation. The center is located between Bruckner Boulevard and Wilkinson Avenue.

Making Strides
Contribute to the fight against breast cancer at the Mall at Bay Plaza on Tues., Aug. 14th at 7:00 a.m. Listen to the stories of those affected by breast cancer and learn more about the disease at the kick-off exposition. Network and connect to doctors and survivors alike to help raise awareness. Donations to help fund future research, promote education and reduce risks are welcome. Banner Making
Wave your colors high at Virginia Park on Sun., Aug. 12th from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Create your own felt banner using stencils and paint supplied by the park’s Art and Antiquities Department. You can make your official family crest, a welcome sign or much more. The drop-in workshop is led by Cara Lynch, the artist who created the park’s mural, I’m So Happy You’re Here. Children under 16 years old require adult supervision. The park is located at 1878 Cross Bronx Service Road South.
