Photo Festival
The Bronx Documentary Center (BDC) is hosting an opening reception for its Claremont Illuminated Photography Festival on Fri., Jun. 22nd at 7:00 p.m. Planned by the BDC in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, Claremont Illuminated will be an evening photography festival intended to revitalize a dark and isolated stairwell at 169th Street and Webster Avenue on the edge of the South Bronx’s Claremont Village, a NYCHA housing development. A Floor Apart, A World Away
Join the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum for a presentation by Margaret Lynch-Brennan, PhD on Sun., Jun. 24th from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Lynch-Brennan is the author of The Irish Bridget: Irish Immigrant Women in Domestic Service in America, 1840–1930. There will also be a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception for Bartow-Pell’s new interpretive space on the third floor. Light refreshments will be served. Catch a screening of the remake of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle at the Sedgwick Library on Tues., Jun. 26th at 3:00 p.m. When four teenagers discover a video game, they get sucked in and turn into the characters themselves and the only way they can escape is to work together to finish the game. The film stars Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan and Kevin Hart. The library is located at 1701 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

Mosholu 101
Are you interested in learning Chinese, but don’t know where to start? Attend a session of “Mosholu 101: How to learn Chinese,” on Fri., Jun. 29th 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend an information session on how to learn the basics of Chinese with the help of resources provided by the library. This program is intended for ages 13 year and up. The library is located at 285 East 205th Street.

River Rising
Come one, come all to the opening reception of “River Rising: An Exposition of Science, Art and Technology” at Starlight Park on Sat., Jun. 30th from 12:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The widely anticipated exhibition is crafted to animate the newly renovated Starlight Park with cultural experiences that include performing artists, food concessions, music and moonlight dancing. The park is located at 1490 Sheridan Expressway.
