Feast of Saint Anthony
Belmont is bringing Italian tradition back to the Bronx with the Feast of Saint Anthony. Starting Wed., Jun. 10th through Sun., Jun. 14th, the Feast of Saint Anthony will feature live music, carnival games, rides, and authentic Italian food. One of the highlights of the feast will be the “giglio” – a custom, hand-made wooden structure, measuring 50 feet high and weighing several tons. It takes over 100 lifters, or paranza In Italian, to hoist this enormous structure up on their shoulders as they carry it through the streets while performing various ritual maneuvers.
The “Dancing of the Giglio” will take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on the corner of East 187th Street and Belmont Avenue on Sat., Jun. 13th at approximately 2 p.m.

Opening Reception
Visit Wave Hill on Sun., Jun. 7th from 2 – 4 p.m. for its summer art exhibitions’ opening reception. Kicking off the exhibition season is “Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath—Force of Nature,” which looks to explore contemporary anxieties about the environment through sculptural and painted depictions of the moments before, during and after natural disaster. Artists featured include sculptor Tamara Johnson, who looks to highlight humor into the world of the everyday, and Eto Otitigbe, whose polymedia approach encourages viewers to see the landscape as an interactive experience.

Bronx River Fish Festival
Join the Bronx River Alliance on Sat., Jun. 6th, at River Park, for its latest environmental project, the Bronx River Flotilla and Fish Festival. The Festival comes at the end of the organization’s latest work involving the community in the inauguration of the first fish ladder ever built in New York City. The ladder marks the first time in centuries that the alewife herring will be able to migrate up the Bronx River to historic spawning grounds.
The event will culminate with a dance performance by Davalois Fearon titled Consider Water.

Secrets, Boundaries and Video Games
Visit the Bronx Musuem of the Arts now through Jun. 14th for an exhibition of teen artwork curated by The Bronx Museum Teen Council titled “Secrets, Boundaries and Video Games.”
The council describes the exhibit thusly: “As millennials, we grew up under the influence of video games; they taught us all about secrets and boundaries. They showed us that secrets make the game interesting, and we learned how to destroy and build boundaries in order to access those secrets. Secrets and boundaries are significant because they make us human.”
The Bronx Museum of the Arts is located at 1040 Grand Concourse.

Fiesta de San Antonio
Belmont está llevando la tradición italiana de vuelta al Bronx con la Fiesta de San Antonio. Comenzando el miércoles, 10 de junio hasta el domingo, 14 de junio, la Fiesta de San Antonio presentará música en vivo, juegos de carnaval, machinas y auténtica comida italiana.
Uno de los aspectos destacados de la fiesta lo será el “giglio” – una estructura de madera hecha a mano, que mide 50 pies de alto y pesa varias toneladas. Necesita más de 100 levantadores, o ‘paranza’ en italiano, para levantar esta estructura sobre sus hombros mientras la cargan a través de las calles y van realizando varias maniobras de rituales.
El “Baile del Giglio” se celebrará en la Iglesia Our Lady of Mount Carmen en la esquina del Este de la Calle 187 y la Avenida Belmont el sábado, 13 de junio aproximadamente a las 2 p.m.

Recepción de apertura
Visite Wave Hill el domingo, 7 de junio de 2 – 4 p.m. para su apertura de recepción de las exhibiciones de arte del verano. Comenzando la temporada de exhibiciones está “Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath – Force of Nature”, la cual busca explorar ansiedades contemporáneas acerca del ambiente a través de representaciones esculturales y pinturas de los momentos antes, durante y luego de un desastre de la naturaleza. Festival del Pescad en el Río Bronx
Únase a la Alianza del Río Bronx el sábado, 6 de junio en el Parque River, para su último proyecto ambiental, la Flotilla del Río Bronx y Festival del Pescado. El festival llega al final del último trabajo de la organización envolviendo a la comunidad en la inauguración de la primera escalera jamás construida en la ciudad de Nueva York. La escalera marca la primera vez en siglos que el arenque será capaz de migrar del Río Bronx a lugares históricos.
El evento culminará con una presentación de baile de Davalois Fearon titulad ‘Consider Water’

Secretos, Fronteras y Juegos de Video
Visite el Museo de las Artes del Bronx ahora hasta el 14 de junio para una exhibición de trabajos de artes de adolescentes conservada por el Museo de Adolescentes del Bronx titulada “Secretos, Fronteras y Juegos de Videos”. El concejo describe la exhibición como: “De milenios, crecimos bajo la influencia de juegos de video; nos enseñaron todo acerca de los secretos y las fronteras. Nos mostraron que los secretos hacen el juego interesante, y aprendimos a como destruir y construir fronteras para poder llegar a los secretos. Secretos y fronteras es significante porque nos hace humanos”.
