“The Boogie Down Dance Series” 2013 at BAAD!
The Bronx Academy of Art & Dance (BAAD!) will present its annual spring dance festival “The Boogie Down Dance Series” from Sat., May 4th through Sat., June 1st, at BAAD!, located at 841 Barretto Street in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. The festival features a mix of home-grown Bronx dance and dance from around New York City, and presents a diversity of dance in the Bronx.
“The Boogie Down Dance Series” is sponsored in part by the New York State Council on the Arts, The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the Mertz Gilmore Foundation.

Teddy Bear Hospital

Children can play the role of caregivers when they bring their favorite teddy bear, stuffed animal or doll for a free checkup with Montefiore’s doctors and nurses. They will tour a real ambulance, visit Montefiore’s Emergency Department, receive an X-ray of the teddy bear, and learn important safety tips from the Fire Department of New York and NYC Police Department.
Free giveaways, health education literature and refreshments will also be provided.

Bronx Heroes ComiCon

The 5th Annual Bronx Heroes Comic Book Convention (BXHCC) will take place on Sat., May 4th from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sun., May 5th from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Bronx Library Center, located at 310 E Kingsbridge Road. BXHCC’s mission is to make connections with the Bronx community by designing opportunities for residents to meet emerging and professional artists and learn about potential career opportunities that exist in the comic book and publishing industry.
During BXHCC’s opening day on May 4th, the first 200 guests will receive a free comic book and a guest bag.

Walk to Cure Psoriasis
On Sun., May 5th, the National Psoriasis Foundation is hosting its annual Walk to Cure Psoriasis at the New York Botanical Garden, located at 2694 Dr Theodore Kazimiroff Blvd. Registration for the event begins at 7:30 a.m.; the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. Registration is free.
The National Psoriasis Foundation’s Make focuses on making a difference for the millions of people affected by psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and seek to combat the effects of psoriatic disease through research, advocacy and education.
