Women’s Holistic Healing and Wellness Day
On Sat., May 10th, the Sunkofa Gift Store will offer a Pre-Mother’s Day Women’s Holistic Healing and Wellness Day from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Sunkofa is located at 1789 Southern Boulevard at Boston Road and 174th Street. This second annual community wellness event is designed to empower, enlighten, and celebrate women, providing them with practical tools to assist in stress management and improving their health. Practitioners will be available to offer table and chair massages, foot reflexology, holistic health information, intuitive readings, and more. The event will also feature interactive workshops such as:
· Healing the Mother/Daughter Dynamic
· Chakra Basics through Kundalini Yoga and Kemetic Reiki
· Active Dreaming
· The Garden of Dreams: Manifesting Miracles
· Raising Healthy Sprouts: Holistic Nutrition Tips for Children
Juices and smoothies will be available for sale in the Juice Bar. Meals will be available for sale in the Café. Event attendees will receive gift bags.

Building Bridges
The Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is hosting an event on Wed., Apr. 30th for community members seeking resources to strengthen non-profit organizations. Find out where to get free information on private funders, what funders look for in grant proposals, where to get low-cost space, who can help you manage your grants and much more. Meet other community leaders and get valuable free resource guides. The information session will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, located at 1040 Grand Concourse.
DYCD was created in 1996 to provide the New York with high-quality youth and family programming, administering available city, state, and federal funds to effective community-based organizations. It supports New York City youth and their families by funding a wide range of high-quality youth and community development programs.

Simply Gorgeous
Simply Gorgeous Cosmetics and Fashion and Glamour Events will host its first annual “Operation Gorgeous Meets Glamorous Teens” prom charity event on Sat., May 3rd from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at Escape Restaurant and Lounge. This event is for junior high school students and high school students (both boys and girls) and their families. Anyone wishing to donate items can bring prom dresses, suites, shoes, ties, cuff links, purses/clutches and dress shirts, in addition to any other items that are deemed prom relevant. All items donated at the drive should be gently used and/or new. Also, the event will provide attendees with an array of vendors to shop from. The first 25 guests will receive a gift bag. Music will be provided by DJ Kool Mike Ski. There will be drink specials as well as an open food buffet offered to guests, courtesy of Escape Restaurant and Lounge. Special guests include Councilmember Annabel Palma and Fernando Cabrera. Escape Restaurant and Lounge is located on 3489 Jerome Ave near Gun Hill Road.

On Tues., May 6th, learn what it takes to start your own business. A new course offered by NYC Business Solutions will present a basic overview of the steps needed to start a business and how NYC Business Solutions can serve as a resource.

1040 Lounge: Portadores
Portadores is a collaborative project between the artist Almudena Lobera and architect Isabel Martínez Abascal; the medium is living bodies. The project consists of drawings by Almudena Lobera that are tattooed onto the skin of volunteers by Isabel Martínez Abascal and then destroyed so that the only remaining and existing works are those on the skin. The execution of the dibuajes (drawings-tatoos) requires the collaboration of a viewer, who becomes an integral part of the work. This project aims to call into question the material form of the artwork and to explore social and relational notions.
The Bronx Museum of the Arts, located at 1040 Grand Concourse, will host the performance of Portadores, together with an artist talk, and videos from previous presentations, on Fri., Apr. 25th from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Free admission and bar; donations are suggested.

El Día de la Sanación Holística y del Bienestar de la Mujer
El sábado, 10 de mayo, Sunkofa Tienda de Regalos ofrecerá El día de Sanación Holística y del Bienestar para Mujeres de 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Sunkofa está ubicada en 1789 Southern Boulevard en Boston Road y la calle 174. Este segundo evento anual de bienestar comunitario está diseñado para empoderar, iluminar, y celebrar a las mujeres, proporcionándoles herramientas prácticas para ayudar en el manejo del estrés y mejorar su salud. Los profesionales estarán disponibles para ofrecer mesa y silla de masajes, reflexología podal, la información de la salud holística, lecturas intuitivas, y más. El evento también contará con talleres interactivos tales como:
· Dinámica de Sanar Madre / Hija
· Conceptos básicos de Chakra a través de Kundalini Yoga y Reiki Kemetic

El Departamento de Juventud y Desarrollo Comunitario (DYCD por sus siglas en ingles) está organizando un evento el miércoles 30 de abril para miembros de la comunidad que buscan recursos para fortalecer a las organizaciones sin fines de lucro. 1040 Lounge: Portadores
Portadores es un proyecto de colaboración entre el artista Almudena Lobera y la arquitecta Isabel Martínez Abascal; el medio es los cuerpos vivos. El proyecto consiste en dibujos de Almudena Lobera que están tatuados sobre la piel de los voluntarios por Isabel Martínez Abascal y luego destruidos para que las obras sólo resten y existan los de la piel. La ejecución de las dibuajes (dibujos – tatoos ) requiere la colaboración de un espectador, que se convierte en una parte integral de la obra. Este proyecto pretende poner en cuestión la forma material de la obra y para explorar las nociones sociales y relacionales.
El Museo de Arte del Bronx, ubicado en 1040 Grand Concourse, acogerá la actuación de Portadores, junto con una charla de artista, y los vídeos de las presentaciones anteriores, el viernes, 25 de abril 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Gratis admisión y bar; se sugieren las donaciones.
