Nickelodeon presents AOS2S Youth Step Tour

On Sat., Apr. 19th, the television cable network Nickelodeon will stop in the Bronx as part of its AOS2S Youth Step Tour.
AOS2S Youth Step Tour is a national campaign created by the Art of Stepping™ to help fight against childhood obesity and promote artistic expression, in partnership with former NBA Los Angeles Lakers Point-Guard Chris Duhon’s Stand Tall Foundation. The tour consists of free one-day camps throughout the country where admission for each participant is a donation of a pair of gently used/new sneakers for a family in need. Without a donation, there will be a $20.00 fee per attendee. All registrants must be over the age of 6 to attend and must be escorted by a parental guardian that must be present throughout the event and registered. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m.

The Bronx event will run the following programs:

• Art of Stepping 101 – Basic principles to the Art of Stepping™: Learn the art of stepping through mathematical formulas. The art form of stepping – one that was historically used as a form of communication – uses the body as an instrument to produce rhythms and sounds through hand claps, spoken word and footsteps. It can be performed as an individual but it is mostly known as a group effort fostering the importance of working as a team. Students will learn the basic code system to create original creativity.
• Choreography 101: Teams will be broken down into groups and begin working on choreography based on what they learned. They will use tools provided to create original content.
• Spoken Word: Participants will be taught how to express themselves while learning Nickelodeon’s signature chant.

Upon completion of the workshops, each person will have a 30-minute lunch break to prepare for a performance; upon the completion, performers will get an AOS Certification by Nickelodeon and Art of Stepping™.
The event will take place at the Soundview Academy for Culture and Scholarship, located at 885 Bolton Avenue.

Spring for the Bronx Action Tours

Celebrate the history, culture and natural diversity of the Bronx on this series of Saturday-morning tours. Canoe along the South Bronx waterfront and up the Bronx River and learn about the area’s industrial past, with a stop for lunch at the New York Botanical Garden on Sat., Apr. 12th. Discover the seagoing legacy of City Island firsthand, with a tour of the Nautical Museum and a fishing trip on a 65-foot boat; tackle and bait will be provided as part of the tour on Sat., Apr. 19th.

Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies 5K

The Riverdale Mental Health Association will hold its Fifth Annual Healthy Minds/Healthy Bodies 5K Run/Walk on Sun., April 27th, at 11:00 a.m. The event will take place at The Tortoise and The Hare/ Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Entry fees are $20 for adults and $15 for under-18 entrants. The fee includes refreshment and a commemorative t-shirt. Registration at The Tortoise and The Hare begins at 9:00 a.m. and the 5K course encompasses the park’s grounds. All proceeds benefit RMHA’s programs and services.

100 Years of Spring in the Bronx

El sábado, 19 de abril, la cadena de televisión de cable Nickelodeon se detendrá en el Bronx como parte de su gira AOS2S Youth Step Tour.
El AOS2S Youth Step Tour es una campaña nacional creada “the Art of Stepping™ con el fin de luchar contra la obesidad infantil y promover la expresión artística, en colaboración con el ex jugador de base de los Lakers de Los Angles Chris Duhon y su fundación Stand Tall. La gira consiste en campamentos de un solo dia alrededor de todo el país en donde la admisión para cada participante es la donación de un par de zapatos deportivos, ya sea nuevos o usados para una familia en necesidad. Sin una donación, habrá un cargo de $ 20.00 por participante. Los participantes deberán ser mayores de 6 años para poder asistir y deben estar acompañados por alguno de los padres que deben estar presente durante todo el evento y el registro. La inscripción comienza a las 9:00 am.

El evento del Bronx llevará acabo los siguientes programas:

• Art of Stepping 101 – Basic principles to the Art of Stepping™: Aprende el arte de bailar a través de fórmulas matemáticas. La forma de arte de bailar – que se utilizó históricamente como una forma de comunicación – utiliza el cuerpo como instrumento para producir ritmos y sonidos a través de aplausos, la palabra y pisadas . Puede realizarse de manera individual pero es conocido sobre todo como un esfuerzo de grupo fomentando la importancia de trabajar en equipo. Los estudiantes aprenderán el sistema de código básico para creatividad original.
• Coreografía 101: Los equipos se dividen en grupos y comienzan a trabajar en la coreografía basada en lo aprendido. Usarán las herramientas proporcionadas para crear contenido original.
• Palabra Hablada: Los participantes se les enseñará cómo expresarse mientras aprenden el canto de la firma Nickeloddeon.

Al finalizar los talleres, cada persona tendrá una pausa para el almuerzo de 30 minutos para preparar una actuación; al terminar, los artistas recibirán una certificación AOS por Nickelodeon y el Art of Stepping ™.

Salta para el Bronx Giras de Acción

Celebre la historia, la cultura y la diversidad natural del Bronx en esta serie de giras del sábado por la mañana. Ande en canoa a lo largo de la línea de costa del sur del Bronx y el Río Bronx y aprenda sobre el pasado industrial de la zona, con una parada para el almuerzo en el Jardín Botánico de Nueva York, el sábado, 12 de abril. Descubra el legado de la navegación marítima en la ciudad de la isla, con un recorrido por el Museo Marítimo y un viaje de pesca en un barco de 65 pies; los aparejos y el cebo se proporcionaran como parte de la gira el sábado, 19 de abril.

Mentes sanas, cuerpos sanos 5K

La Asociación de Salud Mental de Riverdale celebrará su quinta carrera anual Healthy Minds/ Healthy Bodies5K Run / Walk el domingo, 27 de abril a las 11:00 am. El evento tendrá lugar en The Tortoise and The Hare/ en el parque Van Cortlandt en el Bronx. Las cuotas de entrada son de $ 20 para adultos y $ 15 para los participantes menores de 18 años.
