The Other City
The Bronx Library Center will host “The Other City: A New York Poetry Workshop with BRIO Winner Orayoán Noel” on Sat., Apr. 11th. During this workshop, Noel will work with participants in writing poetry attuned to the urban community, its cultures and history.
The workshop will include readings from one or more short pieces by poets such as Walt Whitman, José Martí, Langston Hughes, Diane di Prima and others. In addition to completing at least one writing exercise, participants will also have the opportunity to briefly share their work.
Urayoán Noel is a poet, scholar, performer, and translator, and an Assistant Professor of English and Spanish at New York University. His most recent books are In Visible Movement: Nuyorican Poetry from the Sixties to Slam – a critical study; EnUncIAdOr – a performance text, and Buzzing Hemisphere/Rumor Hemisférico – a forthcoming poetry collection. A former BRIO, CantoMundo, and Ford Foundation Fellow, Noel lives in the Bronx.

High Bridge History
The High Bridge is the oldest bridge standing in New York City and after many years of disuse, is under renovation and slated to open for pedestrian traffic within the next year.
Considered an engineering marvel of the day, High Bridge is a classic example of how an ancient system of water technology can play a major role in the expansion of a metropolis. To reintroduce the community to one of the borough’s hidden treasures, Bronx County Historical Society Educator Angel Hernández will lead a historic walking tour of the High Bridge neighborhood on Sat., Apr. 25th, with an inclusion of other historic items throughout the area. The tour will start at the foot of the Bronx-bound staircase of the 167th Street #4 subway station located at the northeast corner.

Campos Celebration
Two of Puerto Rico’s most celebrated folk singers, Roy Bronx and Antonio “El Topo” Cabán Vale, will take the stage at the Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture on Sat., Apr. 25th at 7:30 p.m. The duo has travelled from Puerto Rico for a special concert commemorating the 50th anniversary of the passing of renowned political leader and champion of the Puerto Rican independence movement Pedro Albizu Campos.

Craft Workshop
The Bronx Council on the Arts and the Huntington Free Library will host a free, family-friendly hands-on craft workshop on Sat., Apr. 18th, from 12:30 – 3:00 p.m.
The printmaking workshop, led by Laura Álvarez, will introduce adults and children to watercolors, block print making, acrylics and ink. The workshop will also show visitors how to use recyclables and turn them into fantastic works of art.
The Huntington Free Library is located at 9 Westchester Square.

La otra ciudad
El Bronx Library Center será el anfitrión de “La otra ciudad: un taller de poesía de Nueva York con el ganador del BRIO Orayoán Noel” el sábado 11 de abril. Durante este taller, Noel trabajará con los participantes para escribir poemas en sintonía con la comunidad urbana, sus culturas y la historia.
El taller incluirá lecturas de una o varias piezas cortas de poetas como Walt Whitman, José Martí, Langston Hughes, Diane di Prima y otros. Además de completar al menos un ejercicio de escritura, los participantes también tendrán la oportunidad de compartir brevemente su trabajo.
Urayóan Noel es poeta, erudito, artista, traductor y profesor adjunto de inglés y español en la Universidad de Nueva York. Sus libros más recientes son In Visible Movement: Nuyorican Poetry from the Sixties to Slam –un estudio crítico; EnUncIAdOr –un texto artístico, y Buzzing Hemisphere/Rumor Hemisférico -una próxima colección de poesía. Historia de High Bridge
High Bridge es el puente más antiguo de la ciudad de Nueva York y después de muchos años de desuso, se encuentra bajo renovación y abrirá sus puertas para el tráfico peatonal durante el próximo año.
Considerado como una maravilla de la ingeniería actual, High Bridge es un ejemplo clásico de cómo un antiguo sistema de tecnología hidráulica puede desempeñar un papel importante en la expansión de una metrópoli.
Para reintroducir a la comunidad a uno de los tesoros escondidos del condado, el educador Ángel Hernández, de la Sociedad Histórica del condado del Bronx, dirigirá una caminata histórica del barrio de High Bridge el sábado 25 de abril, incluyendo otros elementos históricos de la zona.
Este recorrido iniciará al pie de la escalera de la estación de metro # 4 de la calle 167, con destino al Bronx, situada en la esquina noreste.
El costo es de $10 dólares para miembros de la Sociedad Histórica Bronx Co., y $15 para los no miembros.

Celebración de Campos
Dos de los cantantes populares más célebres de Puerto Rico, Roy Bronx y Antonio “El Topo” Cabán Vale, subirán al escenario en el Centro Hostos para las Artes y la Cultura el sábado 25 de abril a las 7:30 pm.
El dúo viajará desde Puerto Rico para un concierto especial que conmemorará el 50 aniversario del fallecimiento del venerado líder político, y campeón del movimiento independentista puertorriqueño, Pedro Albizu Campos.

Taller de artesanías
El Consejo de las Artes del Bronx y la Biblioteca Gratuita Huntington serán sede de un taller de artesanías, práctico y gratuito, para toda la familia, el sábado 18 de abril de 12:30 a 3:00 pm.
El taller, dirigido por Laura Álvarez, introducirá a adultos y niños a las acuarelas, la toma de impresión de bloque, los acrílicos y la tinta. El taller también mostrará a los visitantes cómo utilizar materiales reciclables y convertirlos en fantásticas obras de arte.
La Biblioteca Gratuita Huntington está situada en el 9 de Westchester Plaza.
