Architecture is a fairly reliable indicator of the history, status, economy and politics of residents and society at large. The exhibit varies from the majestic courthouses of the city to the graffitied walls of corner stores in residential neighborhoods. Join resident artists as they unveil their works at Wave Hill’s spring exhibition on Sun, Apr. 10th 2 – 4:30 p.m. Located at Wave Hill’s Glyndor Gallery, the “(Not So) Still Life” exhibition presents novel ways that contemporary artists are transforming the still life genre to engage with modern culture. The still life has remained popular since the early Renaissance. Today, artists are creating new variations by working in photography and sculpture to conflate interior space with landscape, or by using video and animation to convey still life in motion. Artists include Adam Brent, Elizabeth Bryant, Nicole Cohen, Ori Gersht, Jessica Jackson Hutchins, Sue Johnson, among others. Wave Hill is located at West 249th Street and Independence Avenue.
