Explore the stylings of Japanese architecture at the “in a grove” exhibiit now on display at the Bronx Museum of the Arts. Created by artist Jill Baroff, “in a grove” refers both to the site where the material comes from, as well as to a short story by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, adapted by Akira Kurosawa in the film Rashomon, in which multiple eye-witness testimony of an event contains conflicting information. “in a grove” is a monochrome project that is perceived as intensely multi-colored, where the viewer becomes the pin around which visual phenomena pivots. Visit the Bronx Documentary Center on Wed., Mar. 30th at 7 p.m. for a conversation with Greg Constantine, author of Nowhere People. The book is a 10-year examination of individuals and communities who have been stripped of or denied citizenship. The book exposes the tragic impact statelessness has on communities in twelve countries including: Bangladesh, Nepal, Malaysia, Myanmar, Kuwait, Iraq, Serbia, Italy, Ukraine, Kenya, Ivory Coast and the Dominican Republic.
