Broadway Moves to the Bronx
Todd Ellison, one of the most accomplished and sought-after music directors working today, brings the final installment of Broadway Moves to the Bronx to the Concert Hall at Lehman College on Sat., Mar. 21st at 3 p.m.
Hailed by the New York Times as one of “Broadway’s electric conductors”, Ellison’s show features Broadway classics in concert as vocalists perform hit songs from famed Broadway musicals. Among the performers are Christopher Sanders, who most recently collaborated with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, José Llana of Rent fame, and Kirsten Wyatt of Annie and Elf. The Concert Hall at Lehman College is located at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West.

El Bronx Remembered
On the 40th Anniversary of El Bronx Remembered, celebrated writer Nicholasa Mohr, one of the first Latinas to be published by a major publishing house, makes a rare public appearance to read a selection of her works. El Bronx Remembered offers a collection of stories that capture the flavor and beat of the Bronx during the 1940’s and 1950’s.
The reading will take place at the Repertory Theatre at Hostos Community, located at 450 Grand Concourse, on Wed., Mar. 25th at 7 p.m.

Women in Jazz
Celebrate Women’s History Month on Sat., Mar. 21st with the “Maxine Sullivan Women in Jazz Series,” in honor of the pioneering jazz vocalist who made the Bronx her home. Located within WHEDco at the BMCH lab, the show will feature a host of performances by female talents. Start your evening with poetry and music by Hattie Gossett, followed by the jazz vocals of the multi-lingual Jenn Jade. The BMHC Lab is located on 1303 Louis Nine Boulevard.

Lasting Legacies
Longwood Arts Project, the visual arts program of the Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA), presents “Lasting Legacies: Ellsworth Ausby, Xenobia Bailey, Honey Kassoy and Olga Kitt,” an exhibition by elder artists, working in textile art, sculpture and painting/graffiti.
Curated by Juanita Lanzo, these artists were selected from the BCA’s Creating A Living Legacy (CALL) Program and is designed to connect elder artists with trained Legacy Specialists who help them document and archive their artwork. The exhibit is now open through May 6th at the Longwood Art Gallery at Hostos Community College.

Mujeres en el jazz
Celebre el Mes de la Historia de la Mujer el sábado 21 de marzo con la serie “Maxine Sullivan Mujeres en el jazz”, en honor a la cantante pionera de jazz que hizo del Bronx su hogar. Ubicado dentro WHEDCo en BMCH Lab, el espectáculo contará con una serie de actuaciones de talentos femeninos. Comience la noche con poesía y música de Hattie Gossett, seguida por las voces de jazz de la multilingüe Jenn Jade. BMHC Lab se encuentra en el no. 1303 del bulevar Louis Nine.

Legados Duraderos
El proyecto de artes Longwood, el programa de artes visuales del Consejo de las Artes del Bronx (BCA por sus siglas en inglés), presenta: “Legados Duraderos: Ellsworth Ausby, Xenobia Bailey, Honey Kassoy y Olga Kitt”, una exposición de artistas mayores que hacen arte textil, escultura y pintura/grafiti.
Curada por Juanita Lanzo, los artistas fueron seleccionados del programa Creando un Legado Duradero (CALL por sus siglas en inglés) de BCA, y está diseñado para conectar a los artistas mayores con especialistas capacitados, quienes les ayudan a documentar y archivar sus obras de arte. La exposición estará abierta hasta el 6 de mayo en la Galería de Arte Longwood, en el Hostos Community College.
