The Spirit

Celebrate the 75^th anniversary of legendary artist Will Eisner’s classic graphic novel The Spirit at Poe Park Visitor Center on Wed., Mar. 23^rd from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Arguably the most influential artist in American comics, Eisner, who served as entrepreneur, innovator, and virtual storyteller, enjoyed a career that encompassed comic books from their early beginnings in the 1930’s to their development as graphic novels in the 1990’s. On display at the Poe Park Visitor Center gallery, the exhibit will feature artworks from Will Eisner’s estate, which will include comic strips of The Spirit, Eisner’s graphic novels A Contact with God, Dropsie Avenue, Life Force, and more. Poe Park Visitor Center is located at 2640 Grand Concourse.

Winter Workspace

Visit Wave Hill on Sat., Mar. 26^th from 1 – 3 p.m. for an open art forum. Glyndor Gallery will be transformed into studio spaces for artists to develop new work and offer opportunities for public interaction in the context of the garden. Individual artists will also share their studio practice with the public on this open studio day. The artists featured at this Winter Workspace showcase include Sindy Butz, Doreen Garner, Ariel Jackson, Maia Cruz Palileo, Chad Stayrook and Seldon Yuan. Cinderella

Join the Russian National Ballet Theatre for a performance of the classic Cinderella on Sun., Apr. 10^th at 4 p.m. The classic fairy tale tells of the virtuous and mistreated servant girl who is magically transformed by her fairy godmother allowing her to attend the grand royal ball. She captures the heart of the handsome prince, but dashes off at the stroke of midnight, leaving only her glass slipper behind. Presented by the Russian National Ballet Theatre, the vibrant company dedicates itself to the traditions of classical Russian Ballet as well as new developments in the dance from around the world. Through dance, the company of 50 dancers perform one of the most enchanting tales of everlasting love, featuring a sprightly score by Prokofiev, lush scenery and colorful costumes. The Lehman Center for the Performing Arts is located at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West.

Havana Film Festival

Visit the Bronx Museum of the Arts on Fri., Apr. 1^st from 6 – 10 p.m. for the 17^th Annual Havana Film Festival. As part of film festival the Bronx Museum will host a screening of La rumba me llama. Directed by Oliver Hill, La rumba me llama follows the development of rumba, a genre essential within the Cuban school of music, through interviews with its most emblematic practitioners. The film traces rumba from its roots to today, arguing for its influence in the both the everyday as well as in other types of music such as timba, jazz, and rap.as well as a performance by Melvis Santa & the Ashedi Project. The Bronx Museum of the Arts is located at 1040 Grand Concourse.

Celebre el 75 aniversario de la clásica novela grafica ‘The Spirit’ del legendario artista Will Eisner en el Centro de Visitantes del Parque Poe el miércoles, 23 de marzo de 8:00 a.m. a 4:00 p.m. Sin duda la persona más influyente en las historietas americanas, Eisner como artista, empresario, innovador y narrador de historias virtuales, disfrutó de una carrera que abarcó libros de historietas desde sus principios en el 1930 hasta su desarrollo como novelista grafico en el 1990. En exhibición en el Centro de Visitantes del Parque Poe, esta exhibirá trabajos de arte del inmobiliario de Will Eisner, el cual incluirá ‘The Spirit’, las novelas graficas de Eisner ‘A Contact with God’, ‘Dropsie Avenue’, ‘Life Force’ y más. Espacio de Trabajo de Invierno

Visite Wave Hill el sábado, 26 de marzo de 1:00 p.m. a 3:00 p.m. para un foro abierto de arte. La Galeria Glyndor será transformada en espacios para artistas que desarrollen nuevos trabajos y le ofrece oportunidades al publico de interacción en el contexto del Jardín. Artistas individuales también compartirán su práctica en el estudio con el público en este día de estudio abierto. Los artistas presentados incluyen a Sindy Butz, Doreen Garner, Ariel Jackson, Maia Cruz Palileo, Chad Stayrook y Seldon Yuan. Cinderella

Únase al Teatro Nacional de Ballet Ruso para una presentación del clásico de Cinderella el domingo, 10 de abril a las 4:00 pm. El clásico cuento de hada narra de la virtuosa y maltratada niña sirvienta quien es mágicamente transformada por su hada madrina permitiéndole asistir al gran baile real. Captura el corazón del apuesto príncipe, pero desaparece al filo de la medianoche, dejando atrás solo su zapatilla de cristal. Presentada por el Teatro Nacional de Ballet Ruso, la vibrante compañía se dedica no solo a la eterna tradición del ballet ruso clásico sino también a estimular esta tradición ya que los rusos comenzaron a aceptar nuevos desarrollos en el baile de todo el mundo. A través del baile, la compañía de 50 bailarines realiza uno de los cuentos mas encantadores de amor eterno, presentando música por Prokofiev, exuberantes paisajes y colorido vestuario. El Centro de Bellas Artes de Lehman está localizado en el 250 de Bedford Park Boulevard.

Festival de Cine Habana

Visite el Museo de las Artes del Bronx el viernes, 1 de abril de 6:00 p.m. a 10:00 p.m. para el Festival de Cine Habana 17. Como parte del festival de cine el Museo del Bronx auspiciará una película de La Rumba me Llama. Dirigida por Oliver Hill, La Rumba me Llama sigue el desarrollo de la rumba, un esencial genero dentro de la escuela de música cubana, a través de entrevistas con sus profesionales más emblemáticos. La película describe la rumba desde sus raíces hasta hoy, argumentando de su influencia tanto del día a día como también de otros tipos de música tales como timba, jazz, rap; como también una presentación por Melvis Santa & Ashedi Project. El Museo de las Artes del Bronx está localizado en el 1040 del Grand Concourse.
