Angélica Negrón

On Sat., Mar. 14th at 8:00 p.m. Puerto Rican composer and performer Angélica Negrón joins Bronx Arts Ensemble’s string quartet for all-new arrangements of her work for strings and live electronics. The evening will include a full cross-section of her compositions. The performance will also feature works that have inspired Negrón, from Ginastera to Stravinsky. The performance will take place at the Pregones Theatre located at 575 Walton Avenue.

From Mambo to Hip-Hop

Come to The Bronx Museum of the Arts on Fri., Mar. 6th at 6:00 p.m. for the screening of the film From Mambo to Hip-Hop: A South Bronx Tale.
The documentary film tells the story of the creative life of the South Bronx, beginning with the Puerto Rican migration and the adoption of Cuban rhythms to create the New York salsa sound and continuing with the fires that destroyed the community and the subsequent birth of Hip-Hop.‎ The film was directed and co-produced by Henry Chalfant in 2006 and will be presented at the Bronx Museum to celebrate the culmination of the show “Henry Chalfant: Art vs. Transit, 1977 – 1987.”  This screening is free and open to the public. The Bronx Museum of the Arts is located 1040 Grand Concourse.

Bone Health Workshop

NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, in collaboration with American Bone Health, will be hosting a Bone Health workshop at Jacobi Conference Center on Thur., Mar. 12th at 6:00 p.m.‎ Attendees will learn about what osteoporosis is, how it’s diagnosed and treated, and what steps they can take to improve bone health and prevent broken bones. Leave with specific tips on nutrition and fall prevention, including a series of simple exercises to improve balance, strength and flexibility. Light dinner included.
Event is free but registration is required. The Jacobi Conference Center is located at 1400 Pelham Parkway South.

BX Comic Con

On Sat., Mar. 28th at 11:00 a.m., join the Bronx Library Center for the 2020 Bronx Comic Con. This annual event will feature a full day of talks, adult, teen and children’s programming, cosplay, costume contests and more. Costume contest winners will receive prizes and free giveaways will be distributed throughout the day.‎ The Bronx Library Center is located at 310 East Kingsbridge Road.

El sábado 14 de marzo a las 8:00 p.m. la compositora e intérprete puertorriqueña Angélica Negrón se une al cuarteto de cuerdas del Bronx Arts Ensemble para nuevos arreglos de su obra para cuerdas y electrónicos en vivo. La noche incluirá una sección transversal completa de sus composiciones. La actuación también contará con obras que han inspirado a Negrón, desde Ginastera hasta Stravinsky. La presentación tendrá lugar en el Teatro Pregones ubicado en el No. 575 de la avenida Walton.

Venga al Museo de las Artes del Bronx el viernes 6 de marzo a las 6:00 p.m. para la proyección de la película From Mambo to Hip-Hop: A South Bronx Tale.
El documental cuenta la historia de la vida creativa del sur del Bronx, comenzando con la migración puertorriqueña y la adopción de ritmos cubanos para crear el sonido de la salsa de Nueva York y continuando con los incendios que destruyeron la comunidad y el posterior nacimiento del Hip- Hop. La película fue dirigida y coproducida por Henry Chalfant en 2006 y se presentará en el Museo del Bronx para celebrar la culminación del espectáculo “Henry Chalfant: Art vs. Transit, 1977 – 1987”. Esta proyección es gratuita y abierto al público. El Museo de las Artes del Bronx se encuentra en el No. 1040 de Grand Concourse.

Taller de salud ósea

NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, en colaboración con American Bone Health, organizará un taller de Salud Ósea en el Centro de Conferencias Jacobi el jueves 12 de marzo a las 6:00 pm. Los asistentes aprenderán qué es la osteoporosis, cómo se diagnostica y es tratada, y qué pasos pueden tomarse para mejorar la salud ósea y prevenir huesos rotos. Salga con consejos específicos sobre nutrición y prevención de caídas, que incluyen una serie de ejercicios simples para mejorar el equilibrio, la fuerza y la flexibilidad. Cena ligera incluida. El evento es gratuito, pero es necesario inscribirse. El Centro de Conferencias Jacobi está ubicado en el No. 1400 de Pelham Parkway South.

Comic Con del BX

El sábado 28 de marzo a las 11:00 a.m., únase al Centro Bibliotecario del Bronx para la Comic Con del Bronx 2020. Este evento anual contará con un día completo de charlas, programación para adultos, adolescentes y niños, cosplay, concursos de disfraces y más. Los ganadores del concurso de disfraces recibirán premios, también se distribuirán obsequios gratuitos durante todo el día.
