Lehman Center Presents Sleeping Beauty
Opulent costumes and sets and Tchaikovsky’s score are Sleeping Beauty (italicized) signatures.On Sun., Mar. 16th, Lehman Center will present Moscow Festival Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty. Considered the finest achievement of the classical ballet, the Moscow Festival Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty is the tale of a princess who waits in slumber to be awakened by the kiss of her prince. Opulent costumes and sets, Tchaikovsky’s score, and the movements of these dancers result in an evening of artistry. Wishing to bring together the best of Russian ballet, Sergei Radchenko, principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet, founded this esteemed company of leading Russian dancers in 1989. Lehman Center is located on 250 Bedford Park Blvd West.

Bronx Culture Trolley Night

On Wed., March 5th, the BCA Bronx Culture Trolley invites you to hop off the Bronx Council on the Arts’ Bronx Culture Trolley at The Bronx Museum and hear award winning writer and photojournalist Michael Kamber discuss his book Photojournalists on War . With visceral, previously unpublished photographs and eyewitness accounts by a diverse group of the world’s top news photographers, “Photojournalists on War” presents a new visual and oral history of America’s nine-year conflict in the Middle East.
Michael Kamber, a writer and photojournalist for over 25 years, who covered the Iraq War for the New York Times between 2003 and 2012, interviewed thirty-nine colleagues for the book, many of them from leading news organizations including Agence France-Presse, the Associated Press, the Guardian, the Los Angeles Times, Magnum, Newsweek, the New York Times, Paris Match, Reuters, Time, the Times of London, VII Photo Agency, and the Washington Post. Michael Kamber lives and works in the Bronx. He covered the war in Iraq as a writer and photographer for theNew York Times between 2003 and 2012. Kamber was the Times’s principal photographer in Baghdad in 2007, the bloodiest year of the war. He is the recipient of a World Press Photo and many other awards.

Celebrating Sisterhood
Momma’s Hip Hop Kitchen, Vol. 7: Celebrating Sisterhood will take place on Sat., Mar. 1st, at the Hostos Center for Arts and Culture located on 450 Grand Concourse (at 149th St.).
The annual all women hip-hop concert “Vol. 7: Celebrating Sisterhood” will focus on the use of hip-hop as a tool to honor the accomplishments of women and build awareness of women in the arts.
This year, Momma’s Hip Hop Kitchen is introducing the “7 Pillars of Sisterhood” to initiate dialogue about the actions needed in order to create and maintain strong sisterhood. The 7 pillars are Love, Respect, Honesty, Discipline, Compassion, Patience and Peace. This event will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This event is free and is open to all ages.

Preschool Story Time
The Bronx Library Center will host two preschool story time sessions on Thurs., Feb. 20th and on Thurs., Feb. 27th. Children ages 3 to 5 years old can enjoy picture books with the librarian. Both events begin at 11:00 a.m. This event is free. The Bronx Library Center is located on 310 East Kingsbridge Road.

El Lehman Center presenta la ‘Bella Durmiente’
El domingo 16 de marzo, el Lehman Center presentará la Bella Durmiente del festival de Ballet de Moscú. Considerado como el del mayor logro del ballet clásico, la Bella Durmiente del Festival de Ballet de Moscú es la historia de una princesa que espera en un sueño para ser despertada por el beso de su príncipe. Trajes y escenografías opulentas, música de Tchaikovsky y los movimientos de estos bailarines, resultan en una noche de arte. Deseando reunir lo mejor del ballet ruso, Sergei Radchenko, bailarín principal del Ballet Bolshoi, fundó esta estimada compañía con los principales bailarines rusos en 1989. El miércoles 5 de marzo, el BCA Bronx Culture Trolley le invita a bajar el tranvía cultural del Bronx del Consejo de las Artes del Bronx en el Museo del Bronx para escuchar al galardonado escritor y reportero gráfico Michael Kamber discutir su libro Photojournalists on War. Con fotografías inéditas y testimonios viscerales de un grupo diverso de los mejores fotógrafos de noticias del mundo, “Photojournalists on War”, presenta una nueva historia visual y oral de nueve años de conflicto de Estados Unidos en el Medio Oriente.

Momma’s Hip Hop Kitchen, Vol. 7: Celebrating Sisterhood tendrá lugar el sábado 1 de marzo, en el Centro Hostos para las Artes y la Cultura ubicado en el 450 de Grand Concourse (en la calle 149).
El concierto anual de hip-hop de todas las mujeres “Vol. 7: Celebrating Sisterhood” se centrará en el uso de hip-hop como una herramienta para honrar los logros de las mujeres y crear conciencia sobre las mujeres en las artes.
Este año, Momma’s Hip Hop Kitchen presentará “los 7 pilares de la hermandad” para iniciar un diálogo sobre las acciones necesarias con el fin de crear y mantener una fuerte hermandad. Los 7 pilares son amor, respeto, honestidad, disciplina, compasión, paciencia y paz. Este evento se llevará a cabo de 2:00 p.m. a 5:00 p.m. El evento es gratuito y está abierto a todas las edades.
