City of Science 2020
On Sun., Feb. 9th the City of Science returns to the Bronx. Join the World Science Festival and Con Edison for this touring event where the properties of science, technology, engineering, and math meet. Filled with interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities, this family-friendly program hopes to unleash everyone’s inner scientist. City of Science 2020 is free for all ages and will take place at the Apex Center at Lehman College located at 250 Bedford Boulevard West.

THE UPDATE
The Bronx Council on the Arts presents “The Update” exhibition curated by Kiara Ventura of Artsy Window. The exhibit showcases works by 10 contemporary Bronx artists, all under 30, as they seek to blend their personal experiences and the stories of their milieu to create original works of art in a variety of mediums and styles. The collective mirrors the artists’ understanding of the Bronx’s aesthetic and history. “The Update” also examines the history of modern, abstract and conceptual art while proposing the art of the future. The exhibit is on view through Wed., Feb. 28th at the Longwood Art Gallery located at 450 Grand Concourse.

Your Bronx Story
Join Winter Workspace artist Stephanie Alvarado in archiving Bronx stories through photos on Sat., Jan. 25th at 10:00 a.m. Create “choreo-poems” to help capture the stories of the people of the Bronx. Archive who you are in your biological or chosen family in the Family Art Project. Wave Hill Garden is located at 4900 Independence Ave.

Special Expressions
Head to the Poe Park Visitor Center on Fri., Jan. 31st at 1:00 p.m. for a writing workshop geared for adults with special needs who have demonstrated an interest in writing for self-expression. The workshop will focus on non-fiction writing (essays, poems, lyrics, and memoirs). Participants will be given the opportunity to share and read their writings. The gathering will focus on analysis and discussion of literary works, including some of the best-known works of Edgar Allan Poe. The workshop includes the publication of an anthology of selected writings from participants.
