He was just a teenager when he was killed.
But Lesandro “Junior” Guzmán-Feliz will be remembered long after his untimely death, thanks to the efforts of community advocates and elected officials who have joined with the Guzmán-Feliz family to ensure his name lives on.
Councilmember Ritchie Torres was joined on July 30th by Junior’s mother Leandra Feliz and dozens of community residents to announce a proposed street re-naming along East 183rd Street at Bathgate Avenue.
“They’re going to keep the memory of my son alive,” said Feliz. “People won’t want to forget the tragedy.”
Feliz also expressed hope that the savage violence that took her son would be rejected in the future.
“The people need to have more love in their heart and do something better,” she said.

“His life was tragically cut short by the most senseless, savage act of gang violence that our city has seen in recent memory,” added Torres.
The process for the street renaming has begun, explained the Councilmember, who said he hopes the new street signs can be unveiled in January.
