I love the Bronx- Morris Perk CBK

Though we were not allowed to drink it regularly, we grew up in a home where the aroma of coffee was ever present. I recall neighbors would come to my apartment to speak to my mother, and sure enough, coffee was always served.
On special occasions, my mom would serve us a little cup, and remind my sisters and I that we were too young to drink coffee.
When I came of age, it wasn’t long before coffee became an everyday part of my life.
While my coffee of choice is a Mexican blend with milk from a Carnation can, last year I was introduced to a new brand: Morris Perk coffee, which is a Columbian-South American medium roast blend.
Morris Perk, a local coffee service, pops up at different locations throughout the borough.
Most recently, they have teamed up with Charlie’s Bar and Kitchen at 112 Lincoln Avenue to offer hot and cold coffee, espresso drinks, teas and an assortment of pastries and breakfast items. Their hours of operations are Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
The collaboration is called “CBK Perk,” incorporating both business.
Morris Perk Founder Lovie Pignata has had her eye on a particular location, though some obstacles have come up. None have kept her from creating quite a presence throughout the Bronx.
Morris Perk beverages have been served at numerous Bronx-based community events, including at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx River Alliance, Bronx Music Heritage Center and even some yoga studios.
I’m most excited about their cold brew option. I had the opportunity of tasting it last week, and I’ll be the first to tell you, it is smooth.
While the venture is temporary, Pignata is excited to be offering Morris Perk beverages in the Mott Haven area.
The official opening was this past Mon., Jun. 22nd and it was no surprise that the dozens stopped in. Residents of the Clock Tower, local business owners and employees dropped by for a cup of joe and a moment to refocus before starting their work day.
And the crowd also included many who had come in from different neighborhoods – just to be perked up by CBK.
While Morris Perk’s ultimate goal is to recreate a gathering space wherever it finally opens, it seems that in the meantime, where ever it pops up now, community gathers.

A pesar de que no se nos permitía beberlo regularmente, crecimos en un hogar donde estaba siempre presente el aroma del café. Recuerdo que los vecinos venían a mi casa para hablar con mi madre, y por supuesto, siempre se servía café.
En ocasiones especiales, mi mamá nos servía una pequeña taza y nos recordaba a mis hermanas y a mí que éramos demasiado jóvenes para tomarlo. Cuando llegué a la edad, no pasó mucho tiempo antes de que el café se convirtiera en una parte cotidiana de mi vida.
Si bien mi café de elección es una mezcla mexicana con leche de una lata de leche Carnation, el año pasado me presentaron una nueva marca: café Perk Morris, una mezcla medio tostada colombiana sudamericana.
Morris Perk, un servicio local de café, aparece en diferentes lugares del condado.
Muy recientemente se unió a Charlie’s Bar and Kitchen, en el 112 de la avenida Lincoln, para ofrecer café caliente y frío, expresos, tés y un surtido de repostería y productos para el desayuno. Su horario de operaciones es de lunes a viernes de 6:30 am a 9:30 am.
La colaboración se llama “CBK Perk”, incorporando ambos negocios.
Lovie Pignata, fundadora de Morris Perk, tiene en la mira un lugar particular, y aunque algunos obstáculos han surgido, ninguno la ha privado de crear una presencia en todo el Bronx.
Las bebidas de Morris Perk han sido servidas en numerosos eventos comunitarios en el Bronx, incluyendo el Museo de Arte del Bronx, la Alianza del Río Bronx, el Centro del Patrimonio Musical del Bronx e incluso algunos estudios de yoga.
Estoy muy entusiasmada con su opción de infusiones frías. Tuve la oportunidad de degustarlas la semana pasada y seré la primera en decir que son deliciosas.
Si bien la empresa es temporal, Pignata está emocionada por ofrecer las bebidas de Morris Perk en el área de Mott Haven.
La inauguración oficial fue el pasado lunes 22 de junio y no fue ninguna sorpresa que docenas aparecieran. Los residentes de la Torre del Reloj, empresarios locales y empleados, pasaron por una taza de café y un momento para reenfocarse antes de comenzar su trabajo diario.
Y la multitud también incluyó a muchos que llegaron de diferentes barrios solo para ser reanimados por CBK.
Si bien el objetivo final de Morris Perk es recrear un espacio de encuentro donde quiera que finalmente abra, parece que, mientras tanto, donde aparece, la comunidad se reúne.
