Commerce Camaraderie

It’s all friendly – at least for now.

As the New York Yankees look to advance against the Los Angeles Dodgers and secure their 28th World Series title, the teams’ respective hometown chambers of commerce have something to say.

The Bronx Chamber of Commerce and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce have delved into the fray with what they are billing a “friendly non-wagering agreement.”

At the end of the Series, whomever is devastated by defeat will need to assume another layer of shame. Based on the “light-hearted” agreement, chamber executives of the losing city will have to wear either “I Love New York” or “I Love Los Angeles” shirts declaring their love for the winners.

And not for a quick photo op either.

“The bond between our cities is stronger than any rivalry,” said Lisa Sorin.

The shirts – together with identifiable Chamber promotional items such as pins – are not be worn just one hour or one day but for five (5) consecutive days from November 4th through November 8th.

The spectacle will be documented with daily photos that will be shared on social media, with chamber executives in their shirts and paraphernalia together with a newspaper bearing the date.

“Our teams may compete on the field, but the bond between our cities is stronger than any rivalry,” said Lisa Sorin, President of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, in a statement.

“We are thrilled to engage in this fun and unique exchange,” said María S. Salinas.

Sorin, who has made a bit of Bronx history of her own in becoming the first female president of the organization, notes that there are significant parallels between the two cities’ fervent fan bases and how such passion travels throughout each city: “This initiative highlights the economic impact that sports teams have on local businesses, especially when they excel, and serves as a reminder of the vibrant connections between our communities.”

While both chambers support the financial and commercial boosts provided by the teams’ efforts, they also lauded the lift in community spirit as the historic competition between Yankees and Dodgers endures.

“We are thrilled to engage in this fun and unique exchange with our colleagues in the Bronx,” stated María S. Salinas, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. “This agreement reflects our shared commitment to supporting local businesses, celebrating our sports teams, and fostering a business-friendly environment in our respective cities.”
