They found their Way.
The free “Celebración Latina: Family Day Block Party” returned to West 89th Street – aptly named the “Ballet Hispánico Way” – for a fiesta of dance and community. The block party commemorated the dance organization’s 55thanniversary and marked a milestone for both the company and its school.
The affair on Sept. 14 boasted a full day’s worth of free outdoor performances and dance classes, giveaways, live music and art activities. Partners on-site included Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, New York City Center, El Museo del Barrio, Children’s Museum of Manhattan, The Sol Project, as well as Banco Popular and Goya.
“I was introduced to dance at an early age, and it transformed my life,” said Eduardo Vilaro, Artistic Director and CEO, in a statement.
“Inviting our families to participate in the joy that is dance at Ballet Hispánico is one of my favorite traditions of the year, and we are so grateful to our tireless artists and staff who make this dream a reality.”
Also on hand to celebrate were State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal; State Assemblymember Micah C. Lasher; Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine; City Councilmember Gale A. Brewer; and Department of Cultural Affairs Commissioner Laurie Cumbo.

La fiesta gratuita “Celebración Latina: Family Day Block Party”, volvió a la calle 89 Oeste, acertadamente bautizada como “Ballet Hispánico Way”, para celebrar una fiesta de baile y de la comunidad. La celebración conmemoró el aniversario número 55 de la organización de danza, y marcó un hito tanto para la compañía, como para su escuela.
El evento, celebrado el 14 de septiembre, contó con un día completo de actuaciones al aire libre y clases de baile gratuitas, con obsequios, música en vivo y actividades artísticas.
Entre los socios que participaron en el evento estuvieron el Centro Lincoln para las Artes Escénicas, el Centro de la Ciudad de Nueva York, El Museo del Barrio, el Museo Infantil de Manhattan, el Proyecto Sol, así como el Banco Popular y Goya.
“Conocí la danza a una edad temprana y transformó mi vida”, afirmó Eduardo Vilaro, director artístico y director general, en un comunicado. “Invitar a nuestras familias a participar en la alegría que es la danza en el Ballet Hispánico es una de mis tradiciones favoritas del año, y estamos muy agradecidos con nuestros incansables artistas, y con el personal, que hacen realidad este sueño”.
También asistieron a la celebración el senador estatal Brad Hoylman-Sigal; el asambleísta estatal Micah C. Lasher; el presidente del condado de Manhattan, Mark Levine; la concejala Gale A. Brewer; y la comisionada del Departamento de Asuntos Culturales, Laurie Cumbo.
