The city is spreading the IDNYC love for yet another year. Cardholders of the city’s municipal identification card, known as IDNYC, will enjoy yet another full year in 2016 of incentives, benefits and free one-year memberships to a host of cultural organizations. And the list of the latter has expanded. In addition to the existing 33 institutions that currently participate in the free membership program, seven new venues – including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Metropolitan Opera and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum – have signed up to offer the same. The IDNYC program, the largest municipal ID program in the country, currently offers free year-long memberships at, among others, El Museo del Barrio and The Bronx Museum of the Arts. Rather than having to race to an enrollment center before the end of the year to reap the benefits, eligible New Yorkers now have all 2016 to apply – and the card will remain free. “We [ have]heard countless stories of New Yorkers empowered through the program, including teenagers who did not previously have access to ID, immigrant mothers who can now enter school buildings and participate in their child’s school with confidence, and transgender individuals who can self-designate their gender for the first-time,” said Nisha Agarwal, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. “We are thrilled to expand on IDNYC’s success in year two with expanded benefits and enrollment centers across the five boroughs, with same or next day appointments available. All New Yorkers have an opportunity to get their IDNYC and show their New York City pride.” Interest in the program has proven robust. Since its founding in January 2015, the administration has reported over 670,000 New Yorkers have registered for the card, and over 150,000 cultural institution memberships have been claimed. The identification is recognized by government offices, banks and the New York Police Department (NYPD). “No matter your status, whether it’s immigrant, economic, financial, or if you’re homeless or transgender, New Yorkers will be able to take advantage of benefits by signing up for this valuable card,” added Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito in a statement. “With this extension, even more people can become card-carrying New Yorkers.” Other benefits to card users are discounts for tickets to the New York City Football Club, Citi Bike and the New York Theatre Ballet and Ballet School. All New York City residents over the age of 14 are eligible. Applicants must provide proof of identity, such as a passport, visa or Social Security card, and show proof of New York City residency, such as a utility bill. Y la lista de estas últimas se ha expandido. Guggenheim- se han inscrito también.
