Celebrating Gay Pride in the Bronx
The Bronx Academy of Art and Dance (BAAD) returns for its fourteenth consecutive year of LGBT pride in the Bronx.
The festival, which runs from June 11 – 25, begins with a drawing workshop on Wednesday, June 11 and performances kick-off on Thursday, June 12 with a documentary celebrating the life of Marsha P. Johnson, followed by a cabaret performance by Michael Lynch.
The festival continues through June 25 with a line-up of dance, theatre, and performances.

PAY IT NO MIND: MARSHA P. JOHNSON and cabaret performance by MICHAEL LYNCH
Director Michael Kasino will be in attendance to introduce his feature-length documentary on revolutionary trans-activist, Marsha P. Johnson, who was a Stonewall instigator, Andy Warhol model, drag queen, sex worker, starving actress, and saint. With her final interview from 1992, Pay It captures the legendary gay/human rights activist recounting her life at the forefront of The Stonewall Riots in the 1960’s, the creation of S.T.A.R. (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries) with Sylvia Rivera in the ’70s, and a New York City activist throughout the ’80’s and early ’90’s. The film will be followed by a dynamic performance by legendary Bronx cabaret and theater performer Michael Lynch who traverses genders and genres as he weaves queer storytelling and music.

JD/DANSFOLK: WE WAS NO ONE TO MESS WITH
Jessica Danser’s JD/Dansfolk presents a multi-disciplinary performance that incorporates dance, live singing, recorded interviews, spiritual rituals, drag, and spoken word. Part dance, part research-based character theater, it is ultimately an exploration of intersectionality. The performance has also received support from the Bronx Council on the Arts.

HONEST BODIES
Because the body is often a private and sacred realm, Honest Bodies looks to uncover ways that young LGBTQ folk of color come to terms with and accept their physical bodies at the same time handling the everyday realities of discrimination and social control.

YALINIDREAM + JENDOG LONEWOLF and KIRYA TRABER
A double bill of theater and performance, Above Street Level brings a unique blend of Hip Hop, Theater, Poetry, and Dance by Jendog Lonewolf and YaliniDream as they bring forth stories of their respective communities– West Indian (Grand Caymanian), Indigenous (Blackfoot and Cherokee) and South Asian (Sri Lankan Tamil). Also being performed is Kirya Traber’s Overheard, a solo work where Traber embodies a diverse cast of characters on a subway ride across the city.

OUT THERE!: The Out Like That! Dance Concert
Through dance, a shared bill of choreographers express their strength and pride with work by Arthur Aviles, Filip A. Condeescu, Emmanuel Delgado & Adam Rodriguez-Hafford, Ranardo-Domeico Grays’ VISIONS Contemporary Ballet, K.H.A.R.I.S., Jasmin Rituper, Sage Rivera and Sasha Spielvogel.

NHOJJ AND BROTHERS: CELEBRATING LOVE
Award-winning singer/songwriter Nhojj leads a blockbuster night of song with fellow singers Jesse O, Sean360x and others who bring a very cool mix of genres and styles including Jazz, R&B, Hip Hop, Electronic, Classical, Spoken Word, Acoustic Soul and Comedy.

OSO ORO’s SUPER-QUEER DRINK-N-DRAW
Ivan Velez, celebrated cartoonist from the Bronx, brings his OSO ORO series of Drink-N-Draws to BAAD! Learn to draw with the professionals. Explore the queer manga and comics of far off lands. Open to all who love to draw, and love to be drawn.

Celebrando el orgullo gay en el Bronx
La Academia de arte y baile del Bronx (BAAD por sus siglas en inglés) regresa para su decimocuarto año consecutivo de orgullo LGBT en el Bronx.
El festival, que va del 11 de junio al 25, inicia con un taller de dibujo el miércoles 11 de junio y actuaciones de inauguración el jueves 12 de junio, con un documental que celebra la vida de Marsha P. Johnson, seguido de un espectáculo de cabaret de Michael Lynch.
El festival continúa hasta el 25 de junio con una alineación de danza, teatro y actuaciones.

Jessica Danser’s JD/Dansfolk presenta una actuación multidisciplinaria que incorpora danza, canto en vivo, entrevistas grabadas, rituales espirituales, drag y palabra hablada. Mitad baile, mitad basada en la investigación de personajes del teatro, en última instancia es una exploración de la interseccionalidad. El espectáculo también ha recibido apoyo del Consejo de las Artes del Bronx.

CUERPOS HONESTOS
Debido a que el cuerpo es a menudo un ámbito privado y sagrado, cuerpos honestos busca descubrir formas en que la gente joven LGBTQ de color llegue a un acuerda para aceptar su cuerpo físico, al mismo tiempo que maneja las realidades cotidianas de la discriminación y el control social.
