Free Yoga
Enjoy free yoga classes at St. James Recreation Center every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
All levels of experience are welcome to this yoga class, which is based on the vinyasa style. Commonly referred to as “flow” yoga, it is characterized by the stringing together of postures so that you move from one pose to another while focusing on your breathing. Participants will be invited to breathe mindfully and explore linking movement while being offered a space for reflection. St. James Recreation Center is located at 2530 Jerome Avenue.

Slavery in the Bronx
On Wed., Feb. 28th, at 4:00 p.m. Dr. Adam Arenson will present findings from his recent classes on Slavery at the Bronx at Riverdale Senior Services. He will discuss the mix of historical research, archaeology, geographic analysis, and genealogical research that has been used to identify and document the history of slavery in the Bronx, and the ways in which our landscape is still marked by the era of slavery. Arenson is an award-winning author, an Associate Professor of history and the Director of the Urban Studies Program at Manhattan College. One Book One Bronx
One Book One Bronx is a free adult book club that hosts vibrant weekly discussions and builds community around a diverse selection of books. Discussion of the award-winning novel A Lucky Man by Hamel Brinkely will begin on Tues., Feb. 18th. The book club will meet every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. until Tues., March 17th. In the nine expansive, searching stories of A Lucky Man, fathers and sons attempt to salvage relationships with friends and family members and confront mistakes made in the past.
The One Book One Bronx book club will meet at BronxArtSpace located at 305 East 140th Street.

It’s Yours
The Bronx Museum of the Arts invites all to attend the opening of the exhibition “José Parlá: It’s Yours,” as organized by guest curator Manon Slome on Wed., Feb, 26th at 6:00 p.m. “José Parlá: It’s Yours” will be the first solo museum exhibition of the internationally renowned artist, a son of Cuban immigrants whose early works were grounded in graffiti and street art. The new paintings evoke the artist’s personal connection to the Bronx, as well as the borough’s influence on his works. The Bronx Museum of the Arts is located at 1040 Grand Concourse.

La discusión de la galardonada novela. A Lucky Man de Hamel Brinkely comenzará el martes 18 de febrero. El club de lectura se reunirá todos los martes a las 6:30 p.m. hasta el martes 17 de marzo. En las nueve historias expansivas y en busca de A Lucky Man, padres e hijos intentan salvar las relaciones con amigos y familiares y confrontar los errores cometidos en el pasado.

It’s Yours
El Museo de las Artes del Bronx invita a todos a asistir a la inauguración de la exposición “José Parlá: It’s Yours”, organizada por el curador invitado Manon Slome el miércoles 26 de febrero a las 6:00 p.m. “José Parlá: It’s Yours” será la primera exposición individual en un museo del artista de renombre internacional, hijo de inmigrantes cubanos cuyas primeras obras se basaron en el grafiti y el arte callejero.
