The Cruising Monologues
Jose Batista-Ayala will bring his seven-character show The Cruising Monologues to B.A.A.D. for one night only on Sat., Oct. 11th, at 7:30 p.m. The performance follows two sold-out performances at the West Village’s The Duplex and the East Village’s Nuyorican Poets Café. Inspired by Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, The Cruising Monologues tells the stories of seven individuals and their experiences with “cruising,” the act of walking or driving around town in search of a little romance. The show features comical monologues, poetry, and dance.

Art in the Marketplace
The Bronx Museum invites all to explore the role of art in the marketplace by creating artwork inspired by Terence Gower’s Superpuesto, a temporary pavilion commissioned by the Bronx Museum of the Arts in collaboration with the Andrew Freedman Home for “Beyond the Supersquare.” Art in the Marketplace will be an afternoon filled with activities for the entire family, free for children 12 and under with parent(s) or guardian.
SuperPuesto examines the complicated legacies of modernist architecture in Latin America and the Caribbean through the perspectives of 30 contemporary artists. With the goal of providing an immersive space for visitors to experience the exhibition’s artistic and architectural themes, SuperPuesto also serves as an annex for educational and public programs related to “Beyond the Supersquare.”

Parent Boot Camp
Public and charter school parents are invited to an interactive seminar presentation and an extended open Q & A session about the city’s public school system. The free Citywide Parent Boot Camp on Sat., Oct.18th will be hosted by the BeingSpecialNYC.com.

- The ABCs of the IEP
- Enrichment Programs
- General and Special Education Issues
- How To Advocate Effectively for Your Child
Parents will also learn how to access affordable, confidential, and customized advisory services that will assist them in navigating the public school system more confidently. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. You must RSVP.
No children under 18 are permitted to attend the event. This event is a B.Y.O.B (Bring Your Own Breakfast) event, although light refreshments will be served. 25 seats are reserved for participants who would like to bring their own foreign language interpreter, as the presentation is in English. The free Citywide Parent Boot Camp will take place at the Lehman College Faculty Dining Hall-Music Building, located at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard.

Maximizing efficiency
The South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation will host a seminar to connect various organizations with restaurants in order to inform them on opportunities and services available to them in the Bronx that can maximize business efficiency. This seminar will take place on Fri., Oct. 3rd at the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation located at 555 Bergen Street (3rd Floor) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

It’s My Park Day
Volunteer with the Friends of Soundview Park and Changing the Odds on Sun., Oct. 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Soundview Park will be expanding its newly established Butterfly Meditation Garden. Tasks include shoveling, weeding, raking, planting, putting down mulch and watering the garden. Friends of Soundview Park will also be planting daffodil bulbs as they prepare their garden for winter.
The MillionTrees Tree LC Truck will be helping volunteers with tree care projects. Clean-up activities plus a free coat giveaway for all ages will be featured.
The Friends of Soundview Park is a community-based volunteer group dedicated to engaging, educating, and inspiring the Soundview Park community through arts, fitness and environmental efforts.

‘The Cruising Monologues’
José Batista-Ayala traerá su séptimo espectáculo “The Cruising Monologues”a B.A.A.D. por solo una noche, solo el sábado, 11 de octubre, a las 7:30 p.m. La presentación le sigue a dos presentaciones vendidas en su totalidad en el cabaret The Duplex en West Village y el Nuyorican Poets Café en el East Village. Inspirada por “The Vagina Monologues” de Eve Ensler. “The Cruising Monologues” cuenta las historias de siete individuos y sus experiencias con “cruising”, el acto de caminar o conducir alrededor de una ciudad buscando un poco de romance. El espectáculo presenta cómicos monólogos, poesía y baile.

Arte en la Plaza de Mercado
El Museo del Bronx invita a todos a explorar el papel del arte en la Plaza de Mercado creando trabajos de artes inspirados por “Superpuesto” por Terence Gower, un pabellón temporal comisionado por el Museo de las Artes del Bronx en colaboración con Andrew Freedman Home para “Beyond the Supersquare”. Arte en la Plaza de Mercado será una tarde llena de actividades para la familia entera. Gratis para niños menores de 12 años acompañados por padres o guardianes.

Hay reservados 25 asientos para los participantes que deseen llevar su propio intérprete, ya que la presentación es en inglés. Día de ‘Es Mi Parque’
Únase como voluntario a los amigos del Parque Soundview y ‘Changing the Odds’ el domingo, 12 de octubre de 10:00 a.m. a 3:00 p.m. El Parque Soundview estará expandiendo su recién establecido Jardín de Meditacion ‘Butterfly’. Las tares incluyen palear, desyerbar, rastrillar, sembrar, colocar abono y regar el jardín. Amigos del Parque Soundview también estarán sembrando narcisos mientras preparan su jardín para el invierno.
El camión de ‘MillionTrees LC’ estará ayudando a los voluntarios con los proyectos de los árboles. Se presentaran actividades de limpieza más una entrega de abrigos para todas las edades.
Amigos del Parque Soundview es un grupo comunal de voluntarios dedicados a educar e inspirar a la comunidad del Parque Soundview a través de las artes, el ejercicio y esfuerzos ambientales.
